🛑 What is Private 911?

Private 911 is a medical emergency response membership designed for expats and travelers in Mexico.

It fills the gap between:
• Calling 911 (which works very differently here), and
• Actually getting fast, appropriate medical care when minutes matter.

⚙️ How does it work?

✔️ You download the Private 911 app
✔️ In an emergency, you tap one button
✔️ Your GPS location is sent instantly
✔️ A bilingual medical response team takes over
✔️ They coordinate the right ambulance, notify hospitals, and stay involved throughout the emergency

This is not just an app — it’s real people advocating for you when you or a loved one cannot.

🏥 Why this matters in Mexico
• Ambulance services vary widely
• Hospitals often require payment or guarantees up front
• Language barriers can delay care
• Families are often left scrambling during emergencies

Private 911 helps remove confusion, delays, and panic when time is critical.

👥 Who should attend?

✔️ Expats living full- or part-time in Mexico
✔️ Snowbirds
✔️ Travelers
✔️ Anyone who wants a plan in place before an emergency happens

✍️ What we’ll cover
• Real-life emergency scenarios
• Exactly how Private 911 works
• Membership options and pricing
• Live Q&A — bring your questions

Many people sign up on the spot because once you understand it, it just makes sense.

Information about Blood Donation in Mexico: What Many People Don’t Realize 🩸

One important difference in Mexico’s healthcare system is how blood is supplied.

Unlike in some countries where hospitals maintain large blood reserves, blood in Mexico is often donated specifically for a patient — especially before planned surgeries, procedures, or hospital admissions.

This means hospitals may ask families and friends to arrange blood donations in advance, because blood is not always readily available on demand.

👉 This doesn’t mean care is unsafe.
👉 It means the system relies heavily on patient-specific and community donations to ensure blood is available when needed.

Here’s what that often looks like:
✔ A patient scheduled for surgery may be asked to provide 1–2 donors
✔ Donations are made at the hospital’s blood bank or an affiliated blood center
✔ Donors don’t have to be family — friends, coworkers, or community members can help
✔ Altruistic (voluntary) donations are always welcomed and help everyone

Foreigners can donate blood in Mexico if they meet basic requirements, and doing so truly makes a difference — one donation can help save multiple lives.

If you live in Mexico or spend part of the year here, understanding how blood donation works can help you be better prepared — for yourself, or for someone you care about.

If you’d like information on where to donate in Mazatlán or how the process works, feel free to message me. ❤️

Flu Season Is Here 🤧—Here’s How to Stay Well (and What to Do If You Get Sick)

Flu season tends to sneak up fast, especially with travel, holidays, and busy schedules. A little prevention goes a long way—and knowing how to care for yourself early can help shorten recovery.

How to protect yourself:
• Wash hands often (soap + water beats sanitizer when available)
• Avoid touching your face, especially eyes, nose, and mouth
• Get adequate sleep—your immune system needs it
• Stay hydrated
• Eat immune-supporting foods (protein, fruits, vegetables, zinc, vitamin C)
• Avoid close contact with people who are actively sick
• Consider wearing a mask in crowded indoor spaces if flu is circulating

Early signs of flu or viral illness:
• Fever or chills
• Body aches
• Fatigue
• Sore throat
• Cough
• Headache
• Runny or congested nose

If you do get sick:
• Rest—this is not the time to push through
• Drink fluids (water, electrolytes, broths)
• Use acetaminophen or ibuprofen for fever/body aches (unless contraindicated)
• Warm showers or humidifiers can help congestion
• Honey or lozenges for throat irritation
• Stay home and avoid spreading it to others

Seek medical care urgently if you have:
• Trouble breathing
• Chest pain
• Confusion
• Persistent high fever
• Dehydration
• Symptoms that worsen after initial improvement

Flu doesn’t have to derail your life—but ignoring it can. Listen to your body, rest early, and take care of yourself (and those around you).

Stay well 💙

📄 Advance Directives in Mexico: What Expats Should Know

Many expats ask:
“If something happens to me in Mexico, who makes medical decisions?”

That’s where an Advance Directive — called “Voluntad Anticipada” in Mexico — comes in.

What is a Voluntad Anticipada?

It’s a legal document that allows you to state your wishes in advance about medical treatment if you become unable to speak for yourself.

It helps guide doctors and protects your family from having to guess or argue during a crisis.

What can it cover?

✔ Refusing extraordinary or life-prolonging treatments
✔ Decisions about:
• Ventilators
• Resuscitation (DNR)
• Feeding tubes
• Dialysis
✔ Requesting palliative care and comfort-focused treatment
✔ Naming a medical representative to speak on your behalf

What it does NOT do

❌ It does NOT allow euthanasia or assisted dying
❌ It does NOT apply to brain death (brain death is legal death in Mexico)

Is it legal in Mexico?

✔ Yes.
Advance directive laws exist at the state level and are recognized within Mexico’s General Health Law framework.

Most are completed:
• While you are competent
• In writing
• Often before a notary public (requirements vary by state)

Why this matters for expats

Without a Voluntad Anticipada:
• Doctors must follow default legal protocols
• Families may disagree or feel uncertain
• Care may continue that you personally wouldn’t have wanted

With one:
✔ Your wishes are clear
✔ Your family is protected from guilt and conflict
✔ Medical teams have legal guidance

Bottom line

An advance directive is not about giving up.
It’s about control, dignity, and peace of mind — for you and the people who love you.

If you live in Mexico long-term, this is one of the most important — and most overlooked — documents you can have.

💙 Education and preparation matter when navigating healthcare in another country.
