This 16 Days of Activism, ICW is honoring women living with HIV who are advocates, activists, and human rights defenders working to end violence against women in all its forms! Today we recognize Hilda Esquivel, advocate, human rights defender and ICW Latina Regional Director, from Mexico, for her unwavering leadership in ending violence against women, including women living with HIV. Hilda reminds us that eliminating gender-based violence requires prevention, protection, justice, economic autonomy, and cultural shifts and that these shifts must be anchored in sustained and enforceable policies, zero tolerance, and zero impunity. In her community, she works directly men and women including those who are incarcerated, with local leaders to shift norms, and she supports women living with HIV who are escaping violence, raising awareness, and demanding stronger policies so survivors can heal and thrive. Hilda’s message is clear: ending violence against women is everyone’s responsibility, and change begins in our neighborhoods and our communities.
