Bold Parents

Bold Parents Dear all,
Welcome to BOLD Parents! Dear all,

Parents often play a pivotal role in a child's learning from infancy up to their growing up years.

We are a not-for-profit that aims to educate, train and empower parents of children's rights in schools via story books, work books and DIY Advocacy Toolkit for children aged 7 years and above. In this changing environment, the role of parents have evolved beyond being just a guardian and a provider. Today, parents are seen as a key stakeholder in a child's life to ensure that they are future-ready. The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) predicts that there 5 skills for kids to be future ready: Critical Thinking, Complex Problem Solving, Emotional Intelligence, Creativity and Collaboration. In light of the above, BOLD Parents aspire to instill the above 5 skills in our work with parents. Our materials are co-developed with parents and teachers hoping to inspire both parents and children to be aware of what they CAN and CANNOT do when something happens in the classroom. If you are a parent, a parent-to-be, early childhood practitioner, educator, psychologist or simply have interest in children + schools, do get in contact in with us on how we may collaborate to equip parents in getting their kids future-ready :)

All proceeds received are use to support high need schools and families in our school improvement programmes. Drop us an email boldparentsmy@gmail.com

It didn’t take long for me to realise that life is so much more than just work, family and friends. I find joy in giving, and it makes me feel content knowing that I got to make a change in someone’s life, even if it’s a small one.

I was deeply inspired by the parents’ courage and efforts to want to improve oneself. I also got a tiny glimpse of the sacrifices parents are willing to make for their kids, especially since some of our sessions were scheduled for nighttime when they’re likely already tired from work.

Overall, the parent was following along with the sessions well and seemed to be enjoying it. The kids would sometimes drop by to learn alongside, which added a cute touch to our sessions. 😊

Mark Twain once said, ''a person who won't read has no advantage over one who can't read.''

Ever since the pandemic I have witnessed weak fundamentals in our education system finally exposed. I believe through the Jom Baca programme, we all can do our part in empowering parents to develop a child's literacy. I hope to contribute more to this nation by volunteering in such a programme.

💌by Lukreiza Abdullah

Like food and water, literacy is not just fundamental, it is a necessity. All learning becomes substantially more difficult for children who are struggling with basic reading skills. Therefore, it’s important to involve parents in their child’s literacy and I would love to be part of this initiative.

I hope to help more parents to be involved with their kids’ literacy and spread more awareness on the importance of our role as parents to support early literacy.

Pn Diana was enthusiastic and committed from the first session until our last one. I’m inspired and motivated by her dedication though sometimes we do experienced problems such as unstable internet connection. She also asked for suggestions on books that are suitable for Danish to practice reading at home on top of the modules used in the Jom Baca programme.

Parent Shaming. Have you heard?

''I let my kids play the handphone during dinners.''

''I yell and s***k my kids when they misbehave.''

''I let my 7 year old daughter wear make-up.''

''I let my child cry and scream in the room when they refuse to sleep.''

''When my child shows tantrum, I keep quiet.''

In this series we would like to share real stories of how parents feel when they are judged. We hope that it will edify and encourage our society to be empathetic and less judgemental on the various parenting techniques that young Malaysian parents are adopting. Stay tuned for our upcoming posts!
