This year taught us a lot,
but reminded us what truly matters.

Family, purpose, and the quiet gift of hope this season brings.
Grateful for the indescribable gift from above that anchors us through it all.

Merry Christmas from our family to yours! God bless!💯🙌

Astigmatism vision explained 👀 Blurry lights, starbursts at night, distorted vision. This is what astigmatism really looks like.

Some of my patients didn’t know they have this astigmatism and thought lights were meant to look fuzzy like that.

If Christmas lights look stretched, smeared, or star-shaped instead of sharp dots,
it’s not the camera.
It’s not your tired eyes.
And it’s definitely not “normal vision.”

This is astigmatism.

🔹 Astigmatism happens when the cornea isn’t perfectly round
🔹 Light scatters instead of focusing clearly on the retina
🔹 That’s why lights look streaky, especially at night
🔹 It can cause eye strain, headaches, and blurred vision
🔹 Many people don’t even realise they have it

The good news?
Astigmatism is very common and easily correctable with glasses, contact lenses, or refractive options.

So if this video looks too familiar…
it might be time for an eye check 👁️✨

Share it with someone whom you loved and you might save them from a lifetime of blurry vision!💯🙌

Stage 3: Eye Drops
5 Things You MUST Watch Out For

Not all eye drops are the same.
Some heal. Some harm if used wrongly.

Here are 5 key tips everyone should know:

1️⃣ Check the label
→ Steroids hide in plain sight
Words like “steroid / dex / pred / FML” (even in combination drops)
This means steroid inside.
Don’t assume it’s “just antibiotics”.

Why it matters: Steroids are powerful. They must be used for the right reason, for the right duration.

2️⃣ Never use steroid drops if you have a corneal abrasion
A scratch on the cornea + steroids
→ slows healing
→ increases infection risk
→ can turn into a corneal ulcer

Rule: Painful red eye with scratch? No steroids.

3️⃣ Don’t use steroid drops indefinitely
Steroids are not for long-term casual use.
→ Possible side effects:
• Raised eye pressure → glaucoma
• Cataract formation
• Masking serious infections

If redness keeps coming back, get checked
Don’t self-treat.

4️⃣ Steroid drops are useful but only in the right conditions
✔️ Post-surgery inflammation
✔️ Allergic or inflammatory eye disease
✔️ Uveitis (with ophthalmology guidance)

❌ NOT for undiagnosed red painful eyes
❌ NOT for infections unless directed by an eye doctor

5️⃣ Discard eye drops after 30 days once opened
→ Steroid or antibiotic drops are not forever bottles.
After 30 days:
• Sterility is compromised
• Infection risk increases

Write the opening date on the bottle.

Bottom line:
Eye drops aren’t “just drops.”
Used correctly → they save sight.
Used wrongly → they can cause harm.

If in doubt, don’t guess!
Get your eyes checked 👁️

If you are in the GP or Pharmacy, don’t give steroids or combination eyedrops without an eye consult.

Stage 2: Is this a cornea abrasion or cornea ulcer?

Step 1: Look carefully at the cornea
→ Use a torch, slit lamp, or fluorescein.
Don’t rush💨 most misses happen here.

Step 2: Is there a WHITE patch?
→ This is the key.
A white corneal infiltrate = corneal ulcer until proven otherwise.

Step 3: Pain + redness + photophobia
→ Abrasion hurts, yes!
but ulcers usually hurt more and look angrier.

Step 4: Ask about contact lens use
→ Contact lens + painful red eye = ulcer risk.
Never brush this off.

Step 5: Decide confidently
• No white patch → likely abrasion
• White patch present → corneal ulcer = refer ASAP

No steroids.
No delay.
No “let’s see tomorrow”.

Refer both cornea abrasion and cornea ulcer to Ophthalmology. We will take it from there!

This is exactly why I made the challenge
to train the pattern recognition that saves vision.
