Is melatonin a helpful sleep aid — and what should I know about melatonin side effects?
The hormone melatonin plays a role in the sleep-wake cycle. Natural levels of melatonin in the blood are highest at night. Some research suggests that melatonin supplements might be helpful in treating sleep disorders, such as delayed sleep phase. They also may provide some relief from insomnia and jet lag.

Melatonin is generally safe for short-term use. Unlike with many sleep medications, with melatonin you are unlikely to become dependent on it, have less response to it after repeated use or experience a hangover effect.

The most common melatonin side effects include:

⭐️Headache
⭐️Dizziness
⭐️Nausea
⭐️Daytime drowsiness
Other, less common melatonin side effects might include:

🌙Vivid dreams or nightmares
🌙Short-term feelings of depression
🌙Irritability
🌙Stomach cramps
🌙Diarrhea
🌙Constipation
🌙Decreased appetite
🌙Urinary incontinence at night
🌙Increased risk of falls
🌙Increased risk of seizures
🌙Confusion or disorientation
🌙Mood swings
🌙Reduced alertness
‼️Because melatonin can cause drowsiness, don't drive or use machinery within five hours of taking it.‼️

Melatonin supplements can interact with some types of medicine, including:

♦️Medicine that slows blood clotting
♦️Medicine that prevents seizures
♦️Birth control medicine
♦️High blood pressure medicine
♦️Diabetes medicine
♦️Medicine that suppresses the immune system (immunosuppressants)
♦️Medicine that is broken down by the liver

👩‍⚕️Before you take melatonin supplements, check with your health care provider first, especially if you have any health conditions or if you are taking other medicine. Melatonin supplements you can buy without a prescription vary widely in the amount of melatonin they contain. Your provider can help you decide if melatonin is right for you and, if so, which one is a good choice for your situation.

💥And keep in mind that, as with any supplement, melatonin shouldn't be the first or only remedy you use to try to resolve a health concern such as insomnia. It needs to be coupled with lifestyle choices that create a solid foundation for good health. That includes fundamentals such as good nutrition, daily exercise, a daily mind-body practice, good sleep hygiene, social connectedness and spirituality.

The Benefits of Yoga🙇
Yoga is an ancient practice that combines meditative movements, physical exercise, stretching, breathing, and attentiveness. It can have a wide range of health benefits, including better sleep. Because yoga can be relaxing and restorative, it is a great way to wind down from a busy day.

If you are spending too many nights tossing and turning, incorporating yoga into your daily routine might be helpful. This ancient practice can be a valuable tool for combating stress, so it is often particularly useful if your nighttime insomnia is related to stress. Yoga is a healthy way to combat feelings of anxiety and worry.

1. Yoga improves strength, balance and flexibility.
Slow movements and deep breathing increase blood flow and warm up muscles, while holding a pose can build strength.

2. Yoga helps with back pain relief.
Yoga is as good as basic stretching for easing pain and improving mobility in people with lower back pain. The American College of Physicians recommends yoga as a first-line treatment for chronic low back pain.

3. Yoga can ease arthritis symptoms.
Gentle yoga has been shown to ease some of the discomfort of tender, swollen joints for people with arthritis, according to a Johns Hopkins review of 11 recent studies.

4. Yoga benefits heart health.
Regular yoga practice may reduce levels of stress and body-wide inflammation, contributing to healthier hearts. Several of the factors contributing to heart disease, including high blood pressure and excess weight, can also be addressed through yoga.

5. Yoga relaxes you, to help you sleep better.
Research shows that a consistent bedtime yoga routine can help you get in the right mindset and prepare your body to fall asleep and stay asleep.

6. Yoga can mean more energy and brighter moods.
You may feel increased mental and physical energy, a boost in alertness and enthusiasm, and fewer negative feelings after getting into a routine of practicing yoga.

7. Yoga helps you manage stress.
According to the National Institutes of Health, scientific evidence shows that yoga supports stress management, mental health, mindfulness, healthy eating, weight loss and quality sleep.
