Just for sharing, the importance of getting food safety certified and be responsible on all the released goods from the premise.

When the company is releasing the goods from the warehouse, the thorough inspection has to be done to ensure the goods are free from all types of hazards (microbiological, chemicals, physical, allergens, radiological, threats and fraud).

Consumers have to be always alert and respond to the local authorities for further investigation, in case you had accidentally identified some suspected foreign items and/or feeling unwell after consuming it. Please do not keep it silent and execute your consumer's rights!

The European Commission Food Alerts’ Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) has issued a notification on the recall of HAK Boerenkool due to possible presence of rubber pieces.

Food Safety awareness is pretty important, especially among public consumers. It is not limited to only the enforcers and manufacturers to focus on, but also, to public awareness shall be strengthened.

A common myth is that foods kept inside the fridge can last longer than what they declared on the packaging, even when opened. You shall be aware some microorganisms can actively survive in chilled storage and/or preparation areas. Thus, the manufacturers shall cautiously ensure that food safety is in practice to not further harm the consumers.

Please refer to the World Health Organisation (WHO) on the food safety matters, as showed below.

Food safety fact sheet provides key facts and information on major foodborne illnesses, causes, evolving world and food safety and WHO response.

Access to sufficient amounts of safe and nutritious food is key to sustaining life and promoting good health. Unsafe food containing harmful bacteria, viruses, parasites or chemical substances can cause more than 200 different diseases – ranging from diarrhoea to cancers. Around the world, an estimated 600 million – almost 1 in 10 people – fall ill after eating contaminated food each year, resulting in 420 000 deaths and the loss of 33 million healthy life years (DALYs).

Food safety, nutrition and food security are closely linked. Unsafe food creates a vicious cycle of disease and malnutrition, particularly affecting infants, young children, elderly and the sick. In addition to contributing to food and nutrition security, a safe food supply also supports national economies, trade and tourism, stimulating sustainable development. The globalization of food trade, a growing world population, climate change and rapidly changing food systems have an impact on the safety of food. WHO aims to enhance at a global and country-level the capacity to prevent, detect and respond to public health threats associated with unsafe food.

To get sufficient knowledge on food safety to protect yourself, your family, and the people you know!

One of the bacteria that can grow slowly in refrigeration temperatures - Listeria.

If you had accidentally consumed the food that was contaminated with Listeria, you could have to be hospitalized, or fatal for some cases.

Listeria - these germs not only multiply at the refrigeration temperature, but they could contaminate your foods that keep in the same refrigerator, as it will spread and the increase likelihood that you and your family will become sick!

Listeria - most likely to happen on ready-to-eat foods, including meats, seafood, salads, etc.

Suggested methods to protect your foods in the refrigerator:
1. Wrap or cover foods with a sheet of plastic wrap or foil or put foods in plastic bags or clean covered containers before you place them into the refrigerator.
2. Install temperature indicator in the refrigerator to closely monitor the temperature periodically.
3. If possible keep the foods in the freezer.
4. Use precooked and ready-to-eat foods as soon as you can. The longer they are kept in the refrigerator, the more chance Lister has to grow!
5. Throw the leftovers after 3 DAYS in the refrigerator.
6. Clean refrigerator regularly
7. Clean hands and kitchen surfaces often

For more details, you may refer to the link below.

Start by keeping your refrigerator temperature low and carefully cleaning surfaces.

TODAY (7th June) is World Food Safety Day!!!

World Food Safety Day on June 7: WHO underlines value of food security in Covid-hit era
On June 7, 2021, the World Food Safety Day this year, the theme is 'Safe food today for a healthy tomorrow'. With this, the World Health Organization (WHO) highlights that the production and consumption of safe food have immediate and long-term benefits for people, the planet, and the economy.

Recognizing the global burden of foodborne diseases, which affect individuals of all ages, in particular children under-5 and persons living in low-income countries, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed in 2018 that every 7 June would be World Food Safety Day. In 2020, the World Health Assembly further passed a resolution to strengthen global efforts for food safety to reduce the burden of foodborne disease. WHO and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) jointly facilitate the observance of World Food Safety Day, in collaboration with Member States and other relevant organizations.

Food safety is a shared responsibility between governments, producers and consumers. Everyone has a role to play from farm to table to ensure the food we consume is safe and healthy. Through the World Food Safety Day, WHO works to mainstream food safety in the public agenda and reduce the burden of foodborne diseases globally. Food safety is everyone's business.

Calls to action:
1. Ensure it’s safe - Government must ensure safe and nutritious food for all

2. Grow it safe - Agriculture and food producers need to adopt good practices

3. Keep it safe - Business operators must make sure food is safe

4. Know what's safe - Consumers need to learn about safe and healthy food

5. Team up for food safety - Work together for safe food and good health

"We may find in the long run that tinned food is a deadlier weapon than the machine-gun." - George Orwell

"Many countries have food safety systems from farm to table. Everybody involved in the food supply is required to follow standard food safety procedures. You would think that everyone involved with food would not want people to get sick from it." - Marion Nestle

"Civilization, as it is known today, could not have evolved, nor can it survive, without an adequate food supply." - Norman Borlaug

"One of the trends we're seeing in food and agriculture is more and more consumers wanting to know things about their food and where and how it's grown and what's in it." - Dan Glickman

"So long as you have food in your mouth, you have solved all questions for the time being." - Franz Kafka
