On 11 September 2025, at Hospital Management Asia (HMA) 2025 in Ho Chi Minh City, Hospital Kuala Lumpur was represented by Dr. Kumaran Krishnan, Head of the Occupational Safety & Health Unit.
In the Staff Experience: Staff Safety & Wellbeing session, Dr. Kumaran shared the OSH practices implemented in HKL, highlighting how these initiatives contribute to safer and more supportive healthcare environments. Backed by the strong support of HKL’s top management, initiatives such as the Staff-Centric Task Force and Wellness Hub have been established to further encourage staff wellbeing and resilience.
His presentation underscored a critical point: “protecting the wellbeing of healthcare workers is not only the foundation of patient safety and quality care, but also a strategic, cost-effective investment in the sustainability of future healthcare systems.”
By institutionalizing staff wellbeing, hospitals can reduce occupational risks, strengthen workforce retention, and ensure a resilient healthcare delivery model capable of meeting future challenges.
This participation placed HKL’s Occupational Safety & Health Unit on the international stage, providing the opportunity not only to present our experiences but also to learn from best practices across Asia—strengthening our shared mission of healthier, safer workplaces for all.

Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Unit Hospital Kuala Lumpur was then established in 2005 after it was instructed by the Chief Secretary of Malaysia via a circular UPTM 159/267/50 Kit 4 (46) dated 20 August 2004: ARAHAN PEMATUHAN AKTA KESELAMATAN DAN KESIHATAN PEKERJAAN 1994 DAN PELAKSANAAN ARAHAN, PERATURAN, PROSEDUR DAN PERUNTUKAN UNDANG-UNDANG DI JABATAN-JABATAN KERAJAAN. Occupational Safety and Health Unit which is placed under the Hospital Director is mainly function as a secretariat for the Occupational Safety and Health Committee of HKL and also responsible to carry out activities or programs in accordance with the Occupational And Safety Health Act 1994.
VISION
Towards safety, healthy and productive hospital staffs and its clients.
MISSION
To provide a quality and comprehensive occupational health services in the hospital through various programs of prevention and disease control ,injury or disability that is cause by interaction between human and occupation.
OBJECTIVES
General Objective:
- To ensure the safety, health and welfare of the hospital staff and its clients.
Specific Objectives:
- To protect and promote the safety and health of the hospital staff and its clients by preventing and controlling occupational accidents and diseases.
- To develop and promote a healthy and safe work environment and work process
- To educate the hospital staff on the importance of occupational safety and health, and thereby preventing accidents and diseases in the workplace.
