Cleft Lip And Palate Association of Malaysia

CLAPAM is the only registered/recognized national organisation on clefts in Malaysia. CLAPAM also functions as a link between members and medical professionals.

Cleft Lip and Palate Association of Malaysia (CLAPAM) is a non-profit, non-government organisation and a support group consisting of volunteers from parents with children born with cleft lip and/ or palate, adults with cleft lip and/ or palate and healthcare professionals who manage such individuals CLAPAM provides various support services including counselling, information on feeding and care of cleft babies, and hospital/house visits.

Peluang Menyertai Penyelidikan Klef

Kami menjemput ahli-ahli CLAPAM menyertai satu kajian oleh UiTM bersabit “Kehidupan dengan klef bibir dan/atau lelangit“, terutama bagi mereka yang pernah atau belum pernah menjalani rawatan ortodontik (seperti pendakap gigi atau alat ortodontik lain).

Kajian ini berbentuk soal selidik ringkas melalui Google Form seperti tertera di bawah. Ia hanya memerlukan lebih kurang 10–15 minit sahaja dan dibuka untuk dua kump**an umur, 9-17 tahun dan 18-40 tahun. Maklum balas akan membantu penyelidik memahami bagaimana klef mempengaruhi kehidupan seharian, keyakinan, pertuturan dan senyuman.

Kesemua ini adalah antara cara kita menyalur maklum balas supaya perkhidmatan baikpulih klef di Malaysia dapat dipertingkatkan lagi.

We would like to invite CLAPAM members to support and participate in a research by UiTM related to “Life with cleft lip and/or palate“, especially how it is like with or without orthodontic treatment (eg. braces or other appliances).

Your participation is voluntary and in the form of responding to a 10-15 minute questionnaire. Your response will be kept private and used to help the researcher understand how cleft condition affects daily life, confidence, speech, and smile.

Participation in this research is a way we provide input so that cleft care can be further enhanced.

Augmented Reality – KLEF

Satu usaha yang berterusan ialah mencari kaedah menarik untuk menerangkan tentang klef. Kami amat berterima kasih di atas usaha sama Politeknik Kuala Terengganu dan Jabatan Kesihatan Negeri Terengganu yang telah menghasilkan satu prototaip aplikasi android diberi nama “Augmented Reality - Klef atau AR-Klef”.

AR-KLEF apabila dilancar berpotensi besar kerana ia berupaya memberi penerangan asas secara visual (imej 3-D), interaktif dan menarik perhatian. Ianya adalah susulan projek pembentukan “Diari Pengurusan Pesakit Klef” yang disediakan oleh pasukan Cleft to Care (C2C) dari PKPD Hulu Terengganu. Kami akan memberi maklumat lanjut apabila AR-Klef siap untuk diguna pakai.

Tahniah kepada Politeknik Kuala Terengganu dan Jabatan Kesihatan Negeri Terengganu.

A continuing effort is to find and introduce innovative ways to present information on cleft. We are most appreciative of a collaboarative effort taken by Politeknik Kuala Terengganu and Jabatan Kesihatan Negeri Terengganu in developing a prototype android application called “Augmented Reality - Klef or AR-Klef”.

AR-Klef has a huge potential in usage as it provides information on cleft visually (3-D imaging), interactive and intuitive. The prototype is a follow up to a project on ““Diari Pengurusan Pesakit Klef” developed by the Cleft to Care (C2C) team of PKPD Hulu Terengganu. We will provide update on AR-Klef when it is released for general usage.

Congratulations to the team from Politeknik Kuala Terengganu and Jabatan Kesihatan Terengganu for advancing this important tool.

Tahun Baharu – Usaha Berterusan

Klinik Bersepadu Klef (“CCC”) pertama untuk tahun 2026 berlangsung di Fakulti Pergigian UM pada 2hb Januari 2026. KBK di UM berlangsung dua kali sebulan (Jumaat pertama dan ketiga setiap bulan). Sesi terakhir KBK/CCC untuk tahun 2025 berlangsung di HKL (Kompleks Pakar dan Rawatan Harian) pada 29hb Disember 2025.

Warga klef disaran menghadiri KBK/CCC terdekat kerana KBK/CCC adalah kaedah terbaik mendapat penilaian dan rawatan baikpulih klef. Konsultasi dan khidmat KBK/CCC ditawarkan tanpa bayaran. Senarai KBK di Lembah Klang terdapat di muka surat 17 Risalah Klef (edisi Ogos 2025). Maklumat lanjut KBK/CCC boleh didapati di muka surat 46-57 dalam buku “Klef . . . 1 dalam 700” (edisi kedua).

The 1st Combined Cleft Clinic (“CCC”) was held at Faculty of Dentistry UM on 2nd January 2026. CCC at UM is held twice a month (every 1st and 3rd Friday). The last CCC for 2025 was held at HKL (Specialist Complex and Ambulatory Care Centre) on 29 December 2025.

Cleftborns and parents are recommended to seek assessment and treatment at CCC as this is the best way to assess and develop treatment protocol for cleft management. Consultations at CCCs are offered without charge. List of CCCs within Klang Valley is found on page 17 of Risalah Klef (August 2025 edition). More details on CCC can found in pages 46-57 within the book “Klef . . . 1 dalam 700” (second edition).

Peluang Membentuk Pelan Induk Tenaga Kerja Kesihatan Bersekutu

CLAPAM telah dijemput oleh Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia menyumbang kepada pembentukan “Pelan Induk Tenaga Kerja Kesihatan Bersekutu” bagi tahun 2026-2035. Projek kerjasama dengan Pertubuhan Kesihatan Sedunia (WHO) ini bertujuan membangunkan pelan komprehensif bagi memperkukuh pembangunan sumber manusia dan perkhidmatan Kesihatan Bersekutu (contoh, pertuturan, audiology, terapy kerja). Ahli ahli CLAPAM dijemput bersama sertai melalui pautan di bawah. Sila beri maklumbalas sebelum 12 Disember, 2025.

Terima kepada KKM menjemput CLAPAM sumbang maklum balas perkhidmatan kesihatan bersekutu.

We have been approached by KKM to participate in a survey to help draft the Allied Health Workforce Blueprint 2025-2035. This initiative is in collaboration with the World Health Organisation (WHO). It is thus an opportunity for CLAPAM members to provide an input to the development of such blueprint for the nation, especially so because we are engaged with allied health disciplines such speech, audiology and occupational therapy. Program Membaiki Kualiti Suara Kanak-kanak klef

Kami mempelawa ahli-ahli CLAPAM yang mempunyai anak yang berkeadaan klef bibir dan lelangit untuk menyertai satu program khas. Program ini terbuka kepada kanak-kanak klef berumur 4-6 tahun yang telah menjalani pembedahan baik pulih lelangit.

Program berbentuk kajian oleh Fakulti Pergigian Universiti Malaya bertujuan menilai kesan latihan vokal berstruktur ke atas kualiti suara. Anak-anak yang dipilih akan menjalani latihan bersama jurulatih vocal bertauliah bagi membantu baiki kualiti suara. Program ini akan memakan masa selama 12 minggu. Penyertaan adalah percuma. We would like to invite CLAPAM members who have a child with cleft lip and palate condition to join this special program. The program is opened to children, 4-6 years age group, who have undergone palate repair.

The program is a research by Faculty of Dentistry Universiti Malaya to study impact of structured vocal exercises on quality of voice. A certified vocal instructor will guide selected children in enhancing his/her voice over a 12-week period. Participation is free of charge. Please refer to attached flyer.

Kunjungan Hormat – YB Dato’ Seri Dr Wan Azizah Ismail

Kami ingin mengucapkan terima kasih kepada YB Dato’ Seri Dr Wan Azizah Ismail kerana meluangkan masa menerima kunjungan kami. Perjumpaan mesra penuh bermakna berlangsung di pejabat beliau di Parlimen. Kami mengambil peluang ini untuk berkongsi lanskap klef di Malaysia (termasuk penjagaan menyeluruh ditawarkan oleh pasukan klef negara kita) dan khidmat jasa CLAPAM.

Buku “Klef . . . 1 dalam 700” dan buku foto cenderahati KLEF2024 dihadiahkan kepada beliau. Semoga apa yang disampaikan dan usaha murni memperkasakan klef diberkati.

We would like to express our sincerest gratitude and appreciation to YB Dato’ Seri Dr Wan Azizah Ismail for making time to meet us. The cordial and meaningful session was held at her office in Parliament. It provided an opportunity to share about cleft landscape in Malaysia (including comprehensive cleft care by our healthcare providers), in addition to the services provided by CLAPAM.

Program Amal Colgate-Palmolive, Watson & CLAPAM

Colgate-Palmolive & Watson terus meraikan masyarakat klef di Malaysia melalui program lukisan mural. Ini adalah tahun ke empat kerjasama dengan CLAPAM menghadiahkan lukisan mural dinding untuk hospital/klinik yang kendali klef. Tema tahun ini ialah “Small Acts, Big Smiles”.

Hospital Sultan Idris Shah (HSIS - Serdang) dipilih sebagai penerima. Program dirasmikan Timbalan Pengarah (Pengurusan) HSIS, Puan Mini Panggi, mewakili Pengarah Hospital. Beberapa orang kanak-kanak klef serta keluarga mereka mengambil bahagian. Selain lukisan mural, terdapat juga aktiviti penjagaan kesihatan gigi, menghias “teddy bear” dan melakar lukisan di bekas pemegang berus gigi.

Colgate-Palmolive & Watson continues with their mural wall program gifting it hospitals/clinics offering cleft services. This is the fourth year of collaboration with CLAPAM. This year’s theme is “Small Act, Big Smiles”.

Hospital Sultan Idris Shah (HSIS) Serdang was selected as this year’s recipient. Hospital Deputy Director (Administration), Puan Mini Panggi ,representing the hospital director , officiated the program. Cleft children with their families participated in this program. Apart from painting the mural, they had the opportunity to learn about oral hygiene, decorate a teddy bear and draw on a tooth brushing holder.

Congratulations to HSIS . Thank you to those who took part and to volunteers from CLAPAM and dental students from UKM for helping. Our heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to Colgate-Palmolive & Watson for their meaningful contribution. Congratulation to HSIS!

BKK2025 – Ringkasan, Rumusan & Terima Kasih

Tahun ini adalah kali ke lima kita menyambut Bulan Kesedaran Klef (BKK) khusus untuk Malaysia.

Kami amat gembira bentuk dan bilangan aktiviti BKK meningkat dari tahun ke tahun. Program tahun ini juga melibatkan Sabah dan Sarawak selain di Semenanjung. 14 aktiviti telah diadakan. 4 pembentangan/perkongsian disampaikan CLAPAM di Malaysia. Di peringkat antarabangsa p**a kita memain peranan berkesan ketika International Cleft Congress bersidang (rujuk muat naik FB bertarikh 28 Oktober).

This year is the fifth occasion we are celebrating the Cleft Awareness Month (CAM) for Malaysia.

We are pleased to note that uptake for CAM has grown year-on-year. This year we also have Sabah and Sarawak celebrating this special month for all of us involved in cleft care. !4 activities were completed throughout October. 4 talks were presented by CLAPAM locally. At the international, we made a strong presence at the International Cleft Congress in Kyoto, details of which were uploaded previously.

BKK2025 - Program Amal Pickle Ball HTPN

Bulan Oktober telah sampai ke penghujung; begitu juga dengan Bulan Kesedaran Klef 2025.

Satu program riadah amal anjuran Jabatan Bedah Mulut & Maksilofasial HTPN Kajang telah diadakan pada 31 Oktober sebagai aktiviti terakhir. Pertandingan “Pickle ball” serta pertandingan poster yang diadakan menyediakan berbagai hadiah menarik. Pertandingan ini telah disertai oleh pasukan dari pelbagai bidang kepakaran yang mengendali klef. Selain memberi peluang berinteraksi, ia dapat memupuk semangat kesukanan antara jabatan. Juga menyerlahkan kreativiti mereka melalui poster yang direka. Tema program “Let’s smash the cleft stigma” bersesuaian dengan aktiviti pickle ball.

Tahniah OMFS HTPN membawa program kreatif meraikan penghujung Bulan Kesedaran Klef 2025. Semoga inisiatif dan kreativiti ini berterusan.

As October come to end, so does the Cleft Awareness Month 2025.

A creative and interactive program was conducted by Oral Maxillofacial (OMFS) HTPN Kajang as a symbolic closure of the Cleft Awareness Month 2025. The activity involved a small tournament of pickle ball and poster exhibition, both offering prizes to winners. The multidisciplinary team involved in cleft care participated. This gives them a chance to interact and foster sportsmanship between the departments. Also, it brings out their creativity in designing posters. The theme was “Let’s smash the Cleft Stigma”” appropriately matched the activities.

Congratulations to OMFS HTPN Kajang for the creativity. May the programs for Cleft Awareness Month in 2026 continue to bring surprises.
