Commune for Arts

Commune for Arts Commune for Arts is a community-based project that aims to improve mental health through arts Goals:

1.

Commune for Arts
is supported by CENDANA Malaysia,
in collaboration with the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre & Malaysian Mental Health Association. We offer the use of artistic expression in an encouraging and supportive environment to effect positive change and personal growth while fostering a sense of community. To promote the therapeutic value and the positive well-being message associated with art-making, at a personal and societal level.

2. To facilitate a safe and welcoming space for the community, especially for individuals living with mental health issues.

3. Expand and contribute to the development of accessibility, representation, inclusivity, and diversity within the arts scene in Malaysia.

4. To integrate arts into the community; to bring people together through art-making.

Here’s a checklist for the session this Sunday, May 22 at :
- Do wear comfortable clothings you can move in
- Bring some water to stay hydrated
- Arrive on time
- Come with an open mind and open heart!

What to expect:
- A time and space to slow down to focus inwards, to listen, and connect to our bodies and it’s impulses.
- A safe space to allow our bodies to express through bodily story-telling while integrating our conscious and unconscious beings.
- There may be invitations to check in with ourselves, guided movement warm ups, body scans and moving meditation, movement/dance circles, use of “mirroring”, use of music, use of art materials as a reflection tool, and verbal sharings and reflections.

Yay! We’re doing a thing after almost 2 years!

We are offering a Moving from Within workshop at the Yayasan Sime Darby Arts Festival at klpac this Aug 19-20, 2023.

Moving from Within gently guides you back to your body; subsequently, exploring sensations, feelings, thoughts, and movements that arise from them. Dance/Movement Therapists, Chloe Tan and Ho Lee Ching will be facilitating the workshop.

The festival runs from 11am till late. Our workshop will be at 5pm - 6pm at AD Studio, Level 3. Unfortunately, I believe Level 3 is not wheelchair accessible. 😩😩
We will be working on our accessibility in our coming Cycle 2 programmes.

Thank you for your openness, generosity, and sharings. Thank you for showing up
and joining us from October - December 2021. We hope you were able to take away something beneficial for yourself. It’s been wonderful to have you all. ❤️❤️

Personally, it was an eye opening project for me. I was not even sure if people were keen on creative arts therapy. And honestly, I have learnt so much from my team and all of you. This is only a beginning! I am looking to continue this but in the mean time, we’ll take a break from our sessions. But, we will continue to be active on soc med!

From the bottom of my heart, I would like to thank these people listed below. Commune for Arts Season 1 ran as smoothly as it did because of every single one of them. I cannot ask for a better team. Thank you trusting in the project. 😭😭
