Many customers are confused when I share to them about setting up a Trust. They think that a Trust is just like a Unit Trust.

A Trust is a fundamental legal arrangements, not an investment product in itself.

Trust is a legal blueprint for holding assets for someone else's benefit.

Purpose of a Trust is to hold and manage assets for the benefit of specific people or entities under a fiduciary relationship. It's purpose can be for estate planning, charity or protecting assets for minors.

There are three key parties involved:

1) Settlor - Person who creates the trust and transfer assets into it

2) Trustee - Person or institution (Rockwills Trustee) that holds the legal title to the assets and manages them for the benefit of the beneficiaries. They have a legal duty to act in the beneficiaries' best interests.

3) Beneficiary - the person(s) who benefits from the Trust's assets.

Example:
A grandparent (Settlor) sets up a Trust for his grandchild's education. He appointed Rockwills (Trustee) to manage a sum of money. The grandchild (Beneficiary) will receive the money for college when he turns 18.
