"Difference Between Exercise and Yoga"

Exercise
Exercise is any physical activity that moves the body. Whether high impact or low impact, it improves strength, stamina, flexibility, and overall fitness.

Running, walking, lifting weights, cycling, swimming, and dancing. Even Zumba and Pilates are all exercises.

Exercise helps maintain health, tone the body, and build strength.

With consistent movement, it can also support weight loss and make the body feel more capable.

Yoga
Yoga, on the other hand, is the only practice that incorporates breath, body, mind, and soul.

Yoga is also a form of exercise. Vigorous styles like Ashtanga, Vinyasa, or Flow Yoga strengthen muscles, build stamina, and improve flexibility.

Even gentle styles, such as Wellness Yoga and Zen Yoga, provide physical benefits while moving the body in a softer, calmer way.

All types of yoga include breathwork or pranayama, which is included with meditation and the practice of awareness.

Breathwork, without a doubt, is the ultimate for setting aside stress, calming the mind, supporting better sleep, and bringing balance to everyday life.

Which is your choice?
Purely physical exercise, or yoga as holistic wellness?

Here’s your senior citizen yoga instructor, Ms. Nava.

"Yoga for Weight Loss"
Shape and size do not define a person.
True beauty is on the inside, not on social media.

For those who believe shape and size matter:
It is about effort, determination, and perseverance.
It is about pride in achievements.

Losing weight and feeling good about it.
Maintaining progress and continuing to improve.
Sharing with others that effort equals outcome.
Feeling lighter and fitting into clothes once kept in hope.

For those who give up easily:
It may simply be a choice not to pursue further, and that is okay.

For those who never consider losing weight:
It is self-contentment.
It is comfort in one’s own body.
It is acceptance that being as is, is okay.

Weight is connected to habits, flexibility, mobility, and circulation.
Knee pain, back pain, and stiffness are not unheard of.
Are these symptoms due to not controlling body weight?

Did you know regular practice of yoga can help in losing weight?
Did you know yoga is a signal of keeping well?
Did you know that through yoga, clean eating naturally follows?
Did you know yoga supports feeling stronger, lighter, and better overall?

Above all, yoga creates wellness on the outside and calm on the inside.

Affordable, natural, and a remedy for weight loss.

Have you ever considered yoga?
Or at least will give it a chance once?

"Yoga for Calmness"
Talking can help release and let go. But as simple as it sounds, opening up about deep feelings and thoughts isn’t always easy.

Sometimes sharing can feel like complaining, or it may invite advice and suggestions that are easier to give than to take.

There are ways to talk to neutral people, but nothing compares to yoga. Not in the sense of speaking, but in quieting the mind.

Gentle inhalations and exhalations send energy to the mind, creating a comfortable space.

When the mind feels at ease, clarity, understanding, and balance naturally emerge.

Spending quiet moments with breathwork, away from noise, gradually builds courage. Over time, it becomes easier to face feelings, take gentle ownership, and see things more clearly.

Try inhaling and exhaling through the nose in a calm space, noticing the stillness. When it feels right in your heart to talk, choosing someone trained, honest, and caring can make it feel safe and supportive.

Yoga is often the first step toward gently feeling ready to say: “I feel ready to talk to someone who will listen without judging or taking sides.”

"Hail All in Their 60s"
Sixties is not an age to sit back, watch others, or feel sorry for yourself.
Neither is it about competing with others, particularly the younger generations.

Set yourself apart and focus on building yourself.
Build your strength and flexibility, both inside and outside.
It’s never about worrying what others will say or think - you’ve already passed that stage after your 60s.

Draw boundaries with those who deter your motivation,
who keep discouraging you,
and who want you to be like them so you fit into their mold,
instead of standing on your own backbone.

Those in their 60s are strong enough to stand alone.
They stay healthy and active.
They remain independent and keep earning.
They balance family and work.
They are willing to try new things.
They keep learning and progressing.

The 60s are the beginning of many things,
including discovering further how you can grow.

Proud of all those in my age group of 60s.
Keep rising and keep shining.

"Wellness for Seniors"
By 61 year old Senior Citizen, Ms. Nava.

"Lose the ability to squat, and you may lose more than just flexibility"

There was a time when sitting on the floor or squatting was effortless. We could lower ourselves, sit cross-legged, and get up again without struggle.

Today, it is nearly impossible - flexibility and mobility have faded. In the past, standing or sitting on a chair in certain settings was considered rude, but now even temples provide chairs.

And it’s not just the elderly who struggle. Even the younger generation finds it difficult. Lifestyle changes are to blame: hours at desks, long drives, and endless scrolling on the phone while seated.

No surprise that health issues keep rising.

Doctors remind us that squatting keeps joints mobile and the body aligned far better than hours on chairs, yet this simple practice has almost disappeared.

It’s important, particularly as we age, to still be able to sit on the floor or squat. Because if we lose that ability, the reality is harsh - depending on others just to lift us up, or swallowing medications to keep going.

But really, how much and how long should we be swallowing medications?

For senior citizens like Ms. Nava, the ability to still squat comes not only from teaching yoga but also from gardening.

Maybe it’s time we rethink our habits?

Even simple stretching, or making the effort to sit or squat on the floor once in a while, can go a long way in protecting health and wellness for years to come.
