There are some things you should and shouldn’t do to help ease shoulder pain.

Do;
*stay active and gently move your shoulder

*try shoulder pain exercises do them for six to eight weeks to stop pain returning.

*stand up straight with your shoulders gently back

*sit with a cushion behind your lower back

*rest your arm on a cushion in your lap

*if the pain starts more gradually, try a hot water bottle in a towel for 20 minutes, two to three times a day to ease the pain

Don't:
*completely stop using your shoulder – this can stop it getting better

*do things that seem to make it worse

*make up your own strenuous exercises or use heavy gym equipment

*slouch when sitting – don't roll your shoulders or bring your neck forward.

Knots cause the muscle to shorten and pull on everything in the surrounding area.

How do you get rid of muscle knots?

1) Rest: It takes time for the muscles to adapt to a new motion or recover from stress. Usually within a week or two a muscle knot will resolve on its own (depending on the severity).

2) Massage: To break up some of the tissue and increase blood flow to the area. More blood passing through provides nutrients and oxygen to the damaged tissue, enhancing recovery.

3) Stretching: Will cause the muscle fibers that are tight to elongate back to their original and normal length.

Running creates a wear pattern on shoes and this if excessive can cause your running form to change and your feet to fall differently. This in turn can lead to excessive abnormal forces on joints and muscles, leading to injuries.

Secondly, the foam in shoes dries out in 2 years and loses its structural support even if they have been sitting on the shelf and never been worn. So unless you know the manufacture date you might not know if the foam is still in good condition or not. This is why you don’t want to buy old models or those on huge discounts. These have probably met their expiry date.

To make sure that your shoes are providing you with the support that you need while running, it is best to follow the protocol of changing your shoes every 500 to 700 kms or every 8-12 months, whichever comes first.
