Vitamed Wellness Nutritional Medicine : a healthcare approach that seeks underlying causes of illness and prescribes individually tailored therapies to restore health.

At Vitamed Wellness, we use diagnostic and treatment tools to assess and manage individual health. By identifying nutritional imbalances that may contribute to specific medical symptoms and health issues, we apply nutrition science to promote health, and provide tailored care. Licensed as a ‘traditional & complementary medicine’ (T&CM) healthcare provider, we use findings from pathology, biochemistry, toxicology, pharmacology and cell biology, to provide client-centred treatments for chronic conditions.

We practice a model of medicine that combines the best diagnostic tools and techniques of conventional medicine, with emerging tests and tools that help us identify critical nutritional and functional imbalances that are at the root of all illness.

Human prostate tissue is thought to be particularly vulnerable to oxidative DNA damage by free radicals, which are thought to play a critical role on all stages of cancer formation. Studies of the phytochemical in tomatoes that give them their red colour, showed that they failed to prevent or treat prostate cancer. Other carotenoids found in tomatoes that accumulate in human prostate tissue, along with non-carotenoid compounds and other phytochemicals in tomatoes, also weren’t found to be cancer-preventive. But when combined, it was a different story. 32 patients with localised prostate cancer were given three-quarters of a cup of canned tomato sauce every day for 3 weeks before their scheduled radical prostatectomy. In only 20 days, their prostate-specific antigen (PSA) protein levels dropped by 17.5% and free radical damage of the DNA in their red blood cells dropped by 21%. The whole-food intervention, seemed to help.

Veggies contain antioxidant phytonutrients, which give plants their colours. Diversity is important because each plant family has a unique combination of phytonutrients that may bind to specific proteins in our body. A more plant-based diet may help prevent, treat, or reverse the progression of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and high blood pressure. As well as improving body weight, blood sugar levels and ability to control cholesterol, it also positively affects emotional states including depression, anxiety, fatigue, sense of well-being, and daily functioning. Adding more veggies to your meals not only gives a nutritional punch, but it makes your dishes more colourful, too.
