Dr Hansley Ooi, Visiting Consultant Periodontist, represented Malaysia at the 11th Evidence-Based Symposium of Advanced Clinical Oral Implantology and the 2nd Asia-Pacific Academic Forum for Young Dental Talents, in presenting a health topic titled “Beyond the Bone”. The international event brought together renowned speakers and dental professionals from various countries to share the latest advancements in oral implantology.

During his presentation, Dr Hansley emphasised that successful dental implant placement should not focus solely on bone support, but also on the quality and thickness of surrounding gum and soft tissue. He highlighted that inadequate attention to soft tissue health is a key factor contributing to implant failure, and stressed the importance of comprehensive clinical assessment to ensure long-term peri-implant health and treatment success.

Congratulations to Dr Hansley for the outstanding presentation and for representing Malaysia on the global stage!

We were honoured to have Dr Chew Ghee Kheng, Consultant Gynaecologist, share an insightful talk on HPV self-testing and HPV vaccination during our Cervical Cancer Awareness Roadshow, proudly supported by the main sponsor, Roche

From busting common HPV myths to explaining Pap smear vs HPV DNA testing and vaccination benefits across different age groups, participants gained clear, evidence-based insights. The session wrapped up with an engaging Q&A, followed by an HPV self-test roadshow guided by our trained nurses. ✨

On 22 January 2026, Dr Jeremy Quah Wy Jin, Consultant Cardiologist & Internal Medicine, and the Cath Lab Team at Penang Adventist Hospital successfully performed Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), an intravascular cardiac imaging modality, during a Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI).

OCT is an advanced intravascular imaging technique that uses near-infrared light to generate ultra-high-resolution images of coronary arteries. With an axial resolution of 10–20 microns, it enables precise characterisation of plaque morphology and accurate assessment of stent deployment. OCT-guided interventions improve clinical outcomes by optimising stent placement, reducing complications such as stent thrombosis and restenosis, whilst adding minimal procedure time.

Congratulations to Dr Jeremy Quah Wy Jin and the Cath Lab Team for this remarkable achievement. Your dedication and skill have made a significant impact, setting a new milestone and standard for excellence in cardiac care at Penang Adventist Hospital.
