PHEST TALKING DRUGS CAMPAIGN !

As part of a committed campaign to end drug and substance abuse and help persons addicted to drug use, we've been involved in concerted efforts to spread the message of &SubstanceAbuse.

Daily we have been sharing facts, figures and correct information focused on stopping the trend of illicit drug taking and its abuse.

Today I share with you a drug
that was discovered in 1962, first tested in humans in 1964, and approved for use in the United States in 1970. It was extensively used for surgical anesthesia in the Vietnam War due to its safety. This drug is called KETAMINE.
It is a medication mainly used for starting and maintaining anesthesia.It induces a trance-like state while providing pain relief, sedation, and memory loss.Other uses include sedation in intensive care and treatment of pain.

It has been documented recently as a drug commonly abused by youths.
Used amongst abusers as a recreational drug, it is still unsafe.

SIDE EFFECTS?

*Cardiovascular: abnormal heart rhythms, slow heart rate or fast heart rate, high blood pressure or low blood pressure
*Central nervous system: Ketamine is traditionally avoided in people with or at risk of intracranial hypertension (ICP) due to concerns about ketamine causing increased intracranial pressure. It does not increase ICP more than opioids.
*Dermatologic: Transient reddening of the skin, transient measles-like rash
*Gastrointestinal: reduced appetite, nausea, increased salivation, vomiting
*Local: Pain, eruptions or rashes at the injection site
Neuromuscular and skeletal: Increased skeletal muscle tone (tonic-clonic movements)
*Ocular: Double vision, increased intraocular pressure, involuntary eye movements, tunnel vision
*Respiratory: Airway obstruction, cessation of breathing, increased bronchial secretions, reduced effort to breathe, spasm of the vocal cords (larynx)
*Other: Anaphylaxis, dependence, emergence reaction.

NB: when Ketamine is administered by a trained medical professional for clinical usage its adverse effects are minimal and measured.
However, untrained and unmonitored usage can actually kill.

Daily we have been sharing facts, figures and correct information focused on stopping the trend of illicit drug taking and its abuse.

Today I share with you the drug M**A(commonly known as Ecstasy).

3,4-methylenedioxy-methamphetamine (M**A) is a synthetic drug that alters mood and perception (awareness of surrounding objects and conditions). It is chemically similar to both stimulants and hallucinogens, producing feelings of increased energy, pleasure, emotional warmth, and distorted sensory and time perception.

M**A was initially popular in the nightclub scene and at all-night dance parties ("raves"), but the drug now affects a broader range of people who more commonly call the drug Ecstasy or Molly.

It is usually taken as a capsule or tablet, though some swallow it in liquid form or snort the powder. The popular nickname Molly (slang for "molecular") often refers to the supposedly "pure" crystalline powder form of M**A, usually sold in capsules. However, people who purchase powder or capsules sold as Molly often actually get other drugs such as synthetic cathinones ("bath salts") instead.

HOW DANGEROUS IT IS?

M**A increases the activity of three brain chemicals:

1.Dopamine—produces increased energy/activity and acts in the reward system to reinforce behaviors
2.Norepinephrine—increases heart rate and blood pressure, which are particularly risky for people with heart and blood vessel problems
3.Serotonin—affects mood, appetite, sleep, and other functions. It also triggers hormones that affect sexual arousal and trust. The release of large amounts of serotonin likely causes the emotional closeness, elevated mood, and empathy felt by those who use M**A.
Other health effects include:

* Nausea
* Muscle cramping
* Involuntary teeth clenching
* Blurred vision
* Chills
* Sweating

It is also important to note that;
High doses of M**A can affect the body’s ability to regulate temperature. This can lead to a spike in body temperature that can occasionally result in LIVER, KIDNEY, or HEART FAILURE or even death.

In addition, because M**A can promote trust and closeness, its use—especially combined with sildenafil (Viagra)—may encourage unsafe sexual behavior. This increases people's risk of contracting or transmitting HIV/AIDS or hepatitis.

Recently, in Nigeria the NDLEA crack team discovered a lab synthesising M**A in Asaba- Delta State.

Today we discuss the drug EXOL.
Exol is used primarily for Parkinsonian disorder, spasms and related purposes.

Exol contains Benzhexol HCL as its active ingredient.

In my research recently, I've discovered that Nigerian youths are abusing this drug with an ever increasing pace. It is traded with the Generic name of Exol 5.

Its effects on users are harsh. These include;
* Mucous membranes dryness.
* Dizziness.
* Confusion.
* Hallucinations.
* Respiratory depressions.
* Agitation.
* Red face.

Exol in any of its dosages available is listed as a controlled drug in Nigeria.

The abuse and dangerous usage of drugs and other substances is dangerous to health and has increased risk of damaging major organs and reducing someone's economic value.
