PRE-MENOPAUSE & MENTAL HEALTH

✅The events in your environment are strong precursor to the mental wellbeing of humans.
Growth pains such as pre-menopause is one of them.

✅The experience of the onset of menopause in some women could be like an encounter with the unknown eccentric part of themselves.
With hot flashes, unexplainable mood swings, pendulum emotions, extreme dryness of the V-palace etc.
These signs and other individual symptoms could make her appear as someone having a panic attack, anxiety disorders or seasonal depression.

✅Bad enough, a lot of men have misinterpreted this phase and formed our own opinions about it. The truth however is that your wife is still very normal but going through a phase that's probably misrepresenting her true self or intentions.

✅The bedroom challenge of the inability of the V-palace to accommodate the regular visitor poses the most prominent point of complaints for the husbands. Even a tube of lubricant might not be enough to create the expressway you desire.
Biko nu🙏🏿. On this, I plead for understanding because it shall surely come to pass.

✅So what is the husband role here...
1) UNDERSTANDING through seeking information and Knowledge.
2) Provide support
3) Don't use harsh words
4) Be gentle and patient.... sometimes you might be forced to cross to Long-suffering lane, but it would soon be over.

My very poor knowledge of the Hausa language called me out recently when holding a sensitization and training on Mental Health for a group of clinicians and health care providers in the Northern Nigeria.
Among the participants were a handful of Traditional healers who were very eager to share and learn but we had ----ba Hausa ba Turenchi challenge. Thank God I was later rescued by a few participants helped with the interpretations.
So, this is me in this pic 'listening' to the president of traditional healers in the state make a sp*ech on how they understood and handle mental health challenges. They are group of fine gentlemen doing what they know to help their people.

I 'listened' to him share their experiences in Hausa and at a point they though I was not appreciating their efforts, so they brought out their Doctor..... ID cards to prove to me.
Honestly that was not the issue. The issues were on the matters around spirits and demons in the areas of Stress, Depression, Trauma etc..

In the class, we can only teach, and project principles and scientific/evidence-based facts around Mental Health, Therapy etc
It ended on a beautiful note with much lessons to learn from my participants.
In conclusion I enjoyed my time of interaction, learning and unlearning. Training facilitation is my core, it flows with ease, let us know how we can assist your organization build capacities in your desired areas of need.

Okay now, so, all of una, my Hausa-speaking friends......I am thinking of un-friending all of you if under your watch, I still dey do Ba-Hausa in spite of our plenty waka.
I dey look for teacher now.

CAN YOU REMEMBER DOING THIS?

While growing up, it's a common thing to see boys flock around in small groups doing various things.
I remember one thing we do regularly was to compete with one another shooting our p*e against the walls looking for who's going to shoot the highest.

Sounds dumb?

Maybe, but it gave us a lot of kick those days because it gave us some level of achievement and sometimes a feeling of loss for "not measuring up" when your shot is the least.🥰
If you did this as a kid... let me have your comments.
How did that make you feel then?
Do we still engage in some of those guinea pig competitions today?
How is that making us feel today? I mean right now.
As men, husbands, fathers, mentors, leaders, the tendency to consciously or unconsciously jump into competitions is high.
We want to prove ourselves to our beautiful wife, in-laws, colleagues, neighbours, siblings etc and you could be left feeling miserable if you do not win.
The truth is that it's very difficult to measure who won in these kind of complications.
What are the things that should matter to you and how can you unlock yourself to get them?

As a kid growing up, we were made to believe that if you're not like other people you're "odd".
It sounded derogatory and everyone struggled to be like everyone.
Few decades down the road I've got to realize that your strength is actually in your difference.
That "oddity" could actually be a strength you haven't celebrated enough to become your pleasant trademark.
I am a fan of beauty and I appreciate God's creative acumen on women.
Imagine every woman having same facial look, same body index..... how then do we appreciate the Brown Skin Girl standing out from the Dark and Lovely and the natural shakers and movers who cannot but be noticed and given space when they need to sit down?
Come to think of it..... "Everyone" is actually a faceless nobody with no definite identity and that shouldn't be you.
I am encouraging spouses to lift their thought pattern above unhealthy cultural/religious/societal definition of "different" and learn to celebrate each other today and always🥂🏅🥂

TRAUMA-INDUCED MASCULINITY-2

I was at Dr Viviann Okoye Parenting Summit yesterday in Abuja listening to awesome speakers talk about parenting.
A whole lot of things stood out for me in that event, but I'll like to make reference to Halima Abubakar who shared her journey through Childhood Trauma and how she's been able to achieve harmony in her family. Beautiful story from a beautiful soul.🥰🏅
A lot of men also went through Childhood Trauma but are yet to pin down their points of pain and seek professional help to resolve them. A lot of us could attest to the presence of trauma in our daily interpersonal relationships at family and workplace platforms.
When your points of pains are yet to be resolved, the likelihood that you'll be raising your children with different shades of the trauma and responding badly to loved ones is very present.
I know you're yearning for help and that's why I'm sharing this.
