Exclusive Breastfeeding

According to WHO, EBF is defined as feeding infants only breast milk for the first six months, with no other liquids or solids, not even water, except for oral rehydration solution, vitamins, or medicine drops.

Breastfeeding offers numerous health benefits for both the mother and the infant. Breast milk contains all the nutrients an infant needs in the first six months of life. Let’s dive in and learn the benefits of EBF to both mother and infant.

Benefits of Breastfeeding to the Child

🤱 Breast milk contains antibodies that protect the baby from viral and bacterial illnesses like Diarrhea, respiratory illness, and ear infection

🤱Reducing the risk of childhood obesity and overweight

🤱lower the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).

Benefits of Breastfeeding to the Mother

🤱A hormone called oxytocin helps mothers recover faster by reducing post-partum bleeding and helps the uterus return to its pre-pregnancy size.

🤱Breastfeeding promotes bonding with the infant and helps reduce stress.

🤱Significantly lowers the risk of developing breast cancer, ovarian cancer, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases.

🤱Offers protection against osteoporosis as a long-term benefit.

🍼Breast milk is readily available without the need to buy, mix, or warm formula, saving money and time

Challenges:
Breastfeeding women encounter cracked or sore ni***es, breast engorgement, and pain during feeding, cultural interference, introducing water or other liquids early, and short maternity leave, among others.

It’s not an easy thing to breastfeed a child for six months, so when next you see a breastfeeding mother, give her flowers🌹; she deserves it, and if you are pondering about it, exclusive breastfeeding is worth it.

Don’t forget to tell a friend to tell another friend about us.
Note to all dads 👨 never sleep shirtless with a breastfeeding child😁

Detty December Can Strangle Your Health; Take Caution.

All work and no play, they say, makes Jack a dull boy, that is one of the reasons detty December was formed, for premium fun.

Detty December, which typically runs from December 6 to 31, sometimes spilling over into January, is a time of excess in Nigeria, with nonstop activities and plenty of naira, the local currency, being splashed around with a lot of delicacy to choose from. Detty means “dirty,” slang for letting loose and that’s precisely what happens. There are festivals, concerts, star-studded events, pop-up markets, beach parties, and weddings all happening back to back, with each event competing to be bigger, flashier, and more memorable than the last.
While having fun, it’s important to know that certain habits can cause harm to our health or may influence how we feel, even if it’s for a day or two. Let’s take a look at those habits;
Overeating 🍝
This is the queen mother of the bad holiday habits (food). Overeating has its consequences. For more details, read here. People with ulcers, hypertension, diabetes, and other illnesses have to take caution during this period on their choice of food to avoid being strangled by detty December.
Drinking of Alcohol 🍺
The holiday season is associated with a significant increase in alcohol consumption and related problems, from Short-Term Effects like Hangover to Long-Term Effects that might affect your organs.
Overspending and Debt 💵
When you don’t plan or have a particular amount set aside for spending, there is a high tendency that you will overspend and fall into debt. To have premium fun, you have to spend. So plan and spend wisely while having fun, or else you might run into depression and might have high blood pressure because of overthinking.

Neglecting sleep/routine can negatively affect your physical and mental health.

Let’s look at the good side of detty December. 🤩
oh yes, there will be a lot of dancing, which is good for your health (you burn calories and allows adequate blood flow in your body), bonding with friends and family 👪 (elevating your love hormone “oxytocin”).

We all know anything done in excess can have an adverse effect on your health, in as much as you want to have premium fun, don’t forget to know when to stop or reduce your activities, enjoy treats but balance them with fiber-rich foods (veggies) and hydrate, Limit phone time and step away from social media when it makes you feel bad.

What is a detty December if you can’t see a glorious new year?
