For 13 weeks, 11 brilliant young Africans have been learning, growing, and stepping into their future as leaders in agriculture and development.

From powerful sessions on leadership, teamwork, and project management to an inspiring field visit at IITA Abuja, this cohort showed up with curiosity, passion, and a genuine commitment to making a difference every single week.

Guided by 10 incredible facilitators and mentors, they gained more than skills; they gained confidence, clarity, and a deeper understanding of what meaningful impact looks like.

We are especially proud that 75% of this cohort were young women, a powerful reminder that when women are empowered, communities thrive.

The 2025 cohort closed out on October 31st with capstone presentations and a graduation celebration.

Swipe through to relive their journey, the learning moments, the teamwork, and the breakthroughs that shaped their growth.

We are proud of their achievements and excited about the next cohort. We are also open to partnering with organisations that share our vision of empowering young Africans for lasting impact.

A new cohort is coming next year.

Stay tuned — you do not want to miss it.

Did you know that women make up nearly 43% of the agricultural workforce, yet many face violence and systemic barriers that limit their potential?

Gender-based violence in agriculture affects not just women, but families, food systems, and entire communities.

🧡 This 16 Days of Activism, we want to hear from you:👇

It’s amazing how much you learn when you step into the heart of a community’s livelihood.👌

Earlier this week, our team joined the Netherlands Delegation led by Ronald Sonnemans, Deputy Head of Mission and accompanied by Inge Tenniglo, Oluwaseun Ojambati, Foluso Adejoro, and Hon. Samson Bugama, Commissioner for Agriculture, Plateau State, on a visit to the Maikatako potato market in Bokkos LGA.

We observed the local potato seed market, evaluated seed quality, and assessed access among potato farmers, gaining firsthand insights into the challenges and opportunities shaping their work.

The day ended with a warm courtesy visit to Governor Caleb Mutfwang, who shared lessons from his recent trip to the Netherlands and discussed ways to grow potato production and create opportunities across the value chain.

Seeing the market, meeting farmers, and connecting with leadership reinforced one thing: lasting impact begins with understanding the real stories on the ground.📌

“There is no sustainable impact without sustainable financial returns.” — Tosin Ojo, Partner, .

At the Exit Ready Roundtable hosted by GIZ at , leaders discussed how Nigeria can design programmes that drive financial independence and anchor lasting change in national systems.

Moderated by Afees Adekunle Adeoye (EU-VACE, GIZ), the conversation brought together voices from Sahel Capital, DBN, NADF, and BOA to tackle one key question:
👉 How can we build food systems that stand on their own — beyond donor cycles, powered by enterprise, and sustained by innovation?

Key commitments included:

to expand aggregator programmes, leverage digital tools, co-create financing for youth and women.

to anchor partner programmes in national systems, scale public-private collaborations, ensure finance reaches smallholder farmers.

to digitise financing, strengthen seed & mechanisation access for youth and women, expand value chains.

announced the launch of zero-interest repayable grants for small agribusinesses.

Which commitment excites you the most? 💬

Imagine a food system where women and youth are fully included.

This was the focus of one of the most powerful breakout sessions at the — “Breaking Barriers: Youth & Women Entrepreneurs Shaping Policy Commitments.”

Moderated by , the session wasn’t just a discussion, it birthed action points.

Each speaker walked away with a tangible commitment:

Dr Kingsley Uzoma (PMO) pledged to amplify youth voices through a short film that will reach the Presidency.

() announced the Agri-Business A’khathon 2026 to fund and mentor women and youth agripreneurs.

Franca Achimugu (AfCFTA Implementation Office) reaffirmed efforts to open regional markets for agripreneurs through digital access.

Dr. Winnie Lai Solarin called for stronger public–private partnerships to sustain empowerment initiatives.

Indeed, change happens when policymakers and changemakers sit at the same table and truly listen.

Which of these commitments do you hope to see implemented first? 💬

It’s been almost a week since the Sahel Food Systems Changemakers Conference 2025, but the energy in that room still feels fresh. 💚

From the moment changemakers arrived, you could sense something special; genuine excitement, warm conversations, and a shared belief that Africa’s food future can and must be different.

Every question asked, every story shared, every thoughtful exchange reminded us that designing for legacy is about people.👌

The conversations didn’t end in the hall; they’ve sparked actions, connections, and a renewed commitment to building food systems that endure.

Three voices. One vision.

Together, they remind us that change begins when leaders, communities, and systems move in the same direction; towards a future that's self-sustaining and inclusive.

However, legacy isn't built by words alone, it starts with what we do next.👌

What will you be doing in your own capacity to design legacy?💭
