"GERNIIA" A Poem By Comr. Oluwaseun A. Ogunniyi

GERNIIA, my fatherland
a great land blessed with diverse natural resources,
A Land blessed with great people,
A Land where corruption is seen as Human Right,
Rich oppresses the poor,
City where graduates turn cobbler, tailor, a cleaner...
Employment is base on nepotism and favouritism,
The dullard are choosing while the brilliants are left unattended to.

We own the black coal yet we purchase with dollars,
Inflation in prices of fuel, that is how my land is been run.
Killings turn to good deed, a ransom for Aljana,
Our king could not give an order,
We hope this menace stop.

60 years of age we are,
Yet no record of good governance,
Soja come, Soja Go,
Alagbada took over,
Yet we are stagnant hoping the good Samaritan to arrive.

We are brothers with different tongues,
the strategy the colonial masters used,
Amalgamation of three nations becoming one,
Oh! We await the day to be free of the burden.
