Tonsillitis is an infection of the tonsils at the back of your throat two masses of tissue at the back of your throat.
Tonsillitis can be spread through inhaling respiratory droplets that are generated when someone with the infection coughs or sneezes You can also develop tonsillitis if you come into contact with a contaminated object. An example of this is if you touch a contaminated doorknob and then touch your face, nose, or mouth.
Symptoms
Requires a medical diagnosis
Symptoms include sore throat, difficulty swallowing and tender lymph nodes
People may experience:
Pain areas: in the ear
Pain circumstances: can occur while swallowing
Whole body: chills, fatigue, fever, or malaise
Nasal: congestion or runny nose
Speech: laryngitis or impaired voice
Also common: cervical lymphadenopathy, sore throat, swollen tonsils, bad breath, hypersalivation, mouth breathing, poor appetite, pus, snoring, or tender lymph node
Causes
Tonsillitis is usually caused by a viral infection but can be from a bacterial infection
viral infection, such as the viruses that cause the common cold or flu virus (influenza)
Some cases can also be caused by a bacterial infection, typically a strain of bacteria called group A streptococcus bacteria.
