In commemoration of the International Day of Education on January 23rd, YAHIC went on radio to advance conversations on basic and inclusive education.

Represented by our Programs Officer Tameshiya Titus and Programs Assistant, Bwala Hyelni James the discussion reflected on the theme of the year, "The power of youths in Co-creating education" while also highlighting Nigeria’s National Policy on Education (Policy 7) which states that Nigeria is committed to providing inclusive, equitable, and quality education for all learners, especially those who are vulnerable or have special needs." and further lay emphasis on inclusive, equitable, and quality learning for all. Listeners were engaged on how inclusive education can be strengthened in schools and communities, especially for learners with diverse needs.

By taking education advocacy to the airwaves, YAHIC continues to promote awareness, policy understanding, and collective responsibility for inclusive learning.

Education is more than access, it’s inclusion, dignity, and opportunity.

Today, we reaffirm our commitment to learning environments where every child is seen, supported, and given the chance to thrive, including children with learning disabilities and those often left behind. Through community action, teacher capacity building, and policy engagement, YAHIC continues to champion education that works for all.

Because when education is inclusive, communities grow stronger, and the future becomes fairer.

Under the ILP2 Strengthening Inclusive Learning Environment (SILE) project, YAHIC organized a road walk titled “Learning Side by Side – A Walk for Inclusive Education.”

The activity brought together students and teachers from the six project schools, alongside representatives from the Ministry of Education, SUBEB, and the Coalition of Persons Living with Disabilities. The walk focused on raising awareness about learning disabilities and promoting Nigeria’s National Policy on Education (Policy 7).

We were warmly received by the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Dr. Lawal Mohammed Rimin Zayam, and senior directors, who reaffirmed the Bauchi State Government’s ongoing efforts toward inclusive education.

This engagement strengthened collaboration between schools, communities, and policymakers, reinforcing that inclusive education works best when everyone walks the journey together.
