The Silent Rope
Tunde said it was “just for fun.” Just one game. Just one drink. Just one scroll before bed.
At first, nothing changed. He still laughed with friends. Still went to school. Still told himself he was in control.
But slowly, the “just one” became five. Then ten. His grades slipped. His sleep disappeared. His phone never left his hand. The things he once loved—football, reading, family time—felt boring.
One evening, his little sister asked, “Why don’t you play with me anymore?”
That question hit harder than anything else.
Tunde realized addiction isn’t loud at the beginning. It whispers. It promises comfort but slowly ties a rope around your freedom.
The next day, he made a choice. He told a trusted adult. He set limits. It wasn’t easy. Some days he failed. But each small win made the rope looser.
Addiction didn’t disappear overnight. But Tunde learned something powerful:
