His Excellency, Prince Bassey Edet Otu, has received the Certificate of No Objection for the Nigeria for Women Program Scale-Up (NFWP-SU) from the World Bank, marking a significant milestone in Cross River State’s commitment to women’s economic empowerment.

The NFWP-SU is a flagship initiative designed to expand economic opportunities for women, strengthen livelihoods, and address gender inequality through inclusive growth and resilience-building interventions.

Anchored by the Commissioner for Women Affairs, in collaboration with the Ministry of International Development Cooperation (MIDC), the first phase of the program targets the training and empowerment of over 450,000 women across various Women Affinity Groups in the three senatorial districts of Cross River State.

In November 2025, the Commissioner for Finance, Dr. Michael Odere, led the state team during a rigorous assessment and readiness mission by the World Bank delegation. The assessment underscored Cross River State’s institutional, financial, and operational preparedness for effective program implementation.
The State Program Coordinator, Dr. Mrs. Afiong Ugbaja, reaffirmed the state’s readiness, highlighting strong inter-ministerial coordination and stakeholder engagement.

The State Ministry of Finance plays a critical role in the program, providing fiscal oversight, ensuring compliance with World Bank financial management standards, and strengthening accountability, transparency, and sustainability throughout program ex*****on.

This milestone reinforces Cross River State’s resolve to invest in women as key drivers of economic growth, social development, and community resilience.

Following earlier engagements representing the Executive Governor of Cross River State, HE Sen. Prince Bassey Edet Otu at the NEC Ad-Hoc Committee on Livestock Development, I was subsequently nominated as a member of the Technical Committee tasked with reviewing and recommending implementable livestock development programmes across the sector.

This follows the inauguration of the High-Level Ad-Hoc Committee by the National Economic Council to coordinate the implementation of the Livestock Reform. The Committee comprises the Governors of Kebbi (Chairman), Bauchi, Niger, Ondo, Imo, and Cross River States, alongside the Honourable Ministers of Livestock Development; Agriculture and Food Security; and Budget and Economic Planning, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Agribusiness, and the NEC Secretariat. The inaugural meeting holds today in Abuja, marking a critical step toward coordinated, sustainable, and impactful livestock development nationwide.

Yesterday marked the first Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC). Ahead of the FAAC was a preparatory meeting (Pre-FAAC) of the year, focused on reviewing and harmonising critical documents ahead of the main FAAC session.

FAAC serves as the platform where federally collected revenues are reconciled, validated, and allocated among the Federal Government, States, and Local Governments. Chaired by the Honourable Minister of Finance, the process brings together the Accountant-General of the Federation, state commissioners of finance, and other key fiscal stakeholders. Yesterday’s deliberations were therefore essential to ensuring accuracy, transparency, and fiscal coordination, setting the tone for a productive and well-structured FAAC process in the year ahead.

The Cross River State Government dispatched an official delegation to Benin Republic over issues involving one of its citizens, Pastor Benjamin Egbaji.

The delegation included the Honourable Commissioner for Finance, Hon. Michael Odere alongside the the Honourable Attorney General, Barr. Ededem Ani, with a mandate to engage relevant authorities and ensure that due process and the welfare of the citizen were fully protected.

Following the engagement and intervention from the Federal Government of Nigeria through the office of Amb. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojujwu, Pastor Benjamin Egbaji returned to Nigeria and was formally received by the Government delegation in Lagos, where further briefings and consultations were held.

The Cross River State Government reaffirms its commitment to the protection of its citizens, adherence to the rule of law, and the use of lawful and diplomatic channels in resolving cross-border matters.

I had the pleasure of hosting the dedicated staff of the Ministry of Finance and recognizing excellence through performance-based rewards.

I am proud to celebrate Mr. Pius Offor, our Best Performing Staff, who was presented with a mini bus in appreciation of his exceptional commitment and service. The gift is expected to support his socio-economic advancement and further empower his productivity. Other outstanding staff members were also rewarded with prizes including televisions, fridges, and irons.

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of partaking in the Bikers’ Carnival, an event that was vibrantly attended and full of colour, energy, and camaraderie. The presence of the Executive Governor of Cross River State, His Excellency, Prince Bassey Edet Otu further underscored the significance of this gathering, as bikers’ groups from across the state and country came together in unity and celebration.

It was a truly fun and memorable experience, reflecting the spirit of community, creativity, and tourism that continues to define Cross River State. Events like this not only promote leisure and culture but also strengthen social bonds and showcase the diverse talents and passions within our state.

I look forward to continued engagements that celebrate our people and reinforce Cross River State as a hub of culture, inclusivity, and shared progress.
