After Labour Pain, the Next in Hierarchy Is Dental Pain: How I Got My Wisdom Tooth Extracted😂🤣

So, I have been battling peritonitis resulting from dental operculum, the pain that comes with the eruption of wisdom teeth. Operculum, on the other hand, is a flap of gum tissue that covers an erupting tooth.

Because of their position, opercula often become inflamed, bruised, or infected, mainly because they easily trap food and bacteria.

Although most operculum cases usually resolve on their own, some require minor surgery (operculectomy) to give the tooth enough space to thrive. However, in severe cases, just like mine, extraction of the wisdom tooth becomes the only lasting solution.

This Monday, I finally had the wisdom tooth extracted. I honestly do not know what music my head had been playing throughout this long journey, but anything that brings an end to recurrent pain and inflammation is worth enduring. At this point, silence feels like the sweetest sound.

Special appreciation to my dear dental friend and the entire dental team for their professionalism, patience, and excellent care.

The Silent Leech Danger:

A leech is a small, worm-like parasite commonly found in freshwater streams, rivers, muddy ponds, and stagnant water.
They survive by attaching to humans or animals and sucking small amounts of blood.

While most leech bites happen on the skin, a leech can sometimes enter a body opening such as the va**na, nose, urethra, or re**um. When this happens, it becomes a serious medical issue.

Leeches have a powerful feeding mechanism. They release a natural chemical called HIRUDIN, which prevents blood from clotting.
This means that even after the leech falls off or is removed, bleeding can continue for hours, and in some cases may be heavy.

For this reason, every case of unexplained bleeding from the va**na or any body or***ce should be carefully examined to rule out the presence of leeches especially in patients from rural, riverine, or freshwater-dependent communities.

Chickenpox and Acyclovir: Quick Relief for a Itchy Situation

Chickenpox, caused by the Varicella zoster virus, is a highly contagious infection that mostly affects children. It shows up as itchy, fluid-filled blisters that spread across the body, often accompanied by fever, tiredness, and loss of appetite.

While chickenpox usually heals on its own, antiviral medicine like Acyclovir can make a big difference especially when first 24hours after the unset of rash. Acyclovir helps to reduce the number of blisters, shorten recovery time, and prevent complications.

Early treatment, rest, and good hygiene keep the infection mild and prevent spread. Vaccination remains the best protection, but when chickenpox strikes, Acyclovir is your shield against severe symptoms.

The form and dosage depend on the patient’s age, weight, and severity of infection.

Pentavalent vaccine (ComBE Five Vaccine).

Mothers and healthcare providers are no strangers to the almighty Pentavalent Vaccine.

It is called Pentavalent because it protects against five deadly childhood diseases — Diphtheria, Pertussis (Whooping cough), Tetanus, Hepatitis B, and Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib).

In most countries’ immunization schedules, the vaccine is first administered at 6 weeks, followed by additional doses at 10 weeks and 14 weeks of age.

Protect your children against these five diseases in one shot — give them the ComBE Five Vaccine!

How I Survived Dental Operculum Pain

Tooth Operculum pain is one of those dental discomforts that will make appreciate the role of Dentists and dental care providers in the healthcare team.🤣 It is a common dental condition that occurs as a result of natural physiological changes as people grow older.

Dental Operculum is simply an EXTRA FLAP of gum tissue that covers an erupting tooth. It often comes with pain, swelling, and sometimes an infection if proper care is not taken.

For the third time in three years, I have had to battle this same dental discomfort. It first started on the left side of my lower teeth, then moved to the right. Each episode lasted about fourteen days on average. This time, it was my right side again, and the pain was so severe that I started making plans for a procedure called Operculectomy.🤣🤣🤣😂

Operculectomy is a minor dental procedure that involves removing the flap of gum covering the tooth to prevent further irritation or infection.

At certain stages of life, especially between the ages of 17 up until late 20s people may experience this kind of discomfort as their wisdom teeth try to erupt. However, not everyone goes through it, which explains why some people have never heard of it.

This is a reminder to everyone reading this to not only consult a dentist whenever you notice unusual pain, swelling, or discomfort around your teeth or gums but appreciate their role in the healthcare provision. Do not wait until it becomes unbearable before seeking help.

Have you ever experienced this kind of pain before? How did you manage it?
