“College of Nursing or University Nursing… I’m Confused 😔”
“Ma, I want to study nursing…
But I don’t know whether to choose College of Nursing or University.”
Let’s break it down simply.
College of Nursing (CON)
Best for you if:
You want hands-on practical training early
You prefer a more structured, disciplined environment
You want to become a Registered Nurse (RN) first
You want a shorter, straight-to-the-point route
What to know:
Duration: usually 4 years
Focus: practical nursing skills
Entry: Jamb + school form + entrance exam + interview
Outcome: RN license (and you can still do B.NSc later)
University Nursing (B.NSc)
Best for you if: You love academics, research, and theory
You want a degree from the start
You’re planning for leadership, teaching, or international opportunities
You’re ready for a competitive JAMB process
What to know:
Duration: 5 years
Focus: theory + research + clinicals
Entry: WAEC + high JAMB score + Post-UTME
Outcome: B.NSc + RN/RM licenses
Ask Yourself These Coaching Questions
Do I prefer practical learning or long academic study?
Can I handle JAMB competition right now?
Do I want to start working earlier or study longer?
What are my financial realities?
Your answers will guide you.
Nursing is not about where you start.
It’s about your commitment to the profession.
Some start in College and later go to University.
Some start in University and continue higher.
Both wear the same uniform.
Both save lives.
Both are nurses.
