NANCY'S TEARS

Chapter 4

Nancy was two weeks gone but didn't know, she was outside vomiting when Eno tapped her

What's wrong? She asked

Nancy turned and faced her holding her stomach with her two hands

Have you eaten? Eno asked

I'm not hungry,I'm just craving nonsense this days..Eno I think I am pregnant,I'm pregnant.. Nancy told her crying

How sure are you? You know what I'll buy a pregnancy test strip for you okay..

Nancy nodded looking tired, she sat on the corridor weeping silently when her aunt shouted her name
She ran to answer the ranting woman who gave her a thunderous slap that resetted her brain

Why did you allow this rice to spoil eh? Carry that rice and eat right now.. Jacinta commanded pointing at the spoilt food on the floor

Nancy carried the rice, she covered her nose and left with it.. she kept the rice in front of her and cried out her eyes..her aunt came out staring at her

Auntie I want to go back to the village.. Nancy said blowing off her catarrh

Village my foot,you will rot here Nancy..why is that rice still there? Jacinta asked pouring the rice on her
Nancy ran away, calling her evil and wicked woman

Nancy held her hair and cried calling God to come to her rescue she slept outside that night

Hello mummy.. Nancy said as she collected the phone from Jacinta

My daughter! How are you? Her mum asked

I'm fine mum just that.....

Talk, just that what happened? You want to go back? Talk let me skin you alive... Jacinta shouted and collected the phone from her

Nancy stared at her with teary eyes, turned and left for school with her oversized sandals, she was about to write her waec

She entered a shop (Call center) to call her mum, she had no money on her she stood staring at the guy

How may I help you young lady? Asked the man

Nancy bit her fingers, swallowed a lump of spit and started talking

Sir please I want to call my mum but I don't have any money

Why are you looking tattered? Where does she live? The man asked looking at her from head to toe

Nancy frowned, waved at him and left

Nancy sat in class thinking, she bent her head and started crying silently when a hand tapped her

My friend let's go..Jacinta told her

Nancy picked up her bag immediately and followed her the gate keeper stopped them from leaving the school premises

This is 10 o'clock ma, students don't leave before closing hour.. The gate keeper said

I know but we need to go, she needs to see the dentist now.. Jacinta lied

Dentist? I'll advice you to go meet the school principal first before taking her out of here

Jacinta stared at him and dragged Nancy to the principal's office
The principal gave them a letter and they left,Jacinta handed the letter to the gate keeper, the gate keeper stared at Jacinta for awhile and unlocked the gate for them to go
She brought out a bowl she bought,tore a bag of pure water and arranged them inside the bowl

"Make sure you sell them all before returning to my house" she ordered

Nancy nodded, dropped her bag inside the car and left still on her school uniform
She came back home after selling the entire pure, her aunt's husband Mr Christopher was sat in the parlour pressing his phone when Nancy entered

Chapter 2

Nancy was still forcing herself to sleep when her aunt tapped her Nancy sat up looking at her with sleepy eyes

This is 4 o'clock, won't my children go to school? Will you get up from there now.. Jacinta commanded

Nancy didn't want to question her but did as she was told, she folded her mat and wrapper then left for the kitchen
She washed all the dirty dishes then went to the parlour to ask her aunt what she was going to do next

Does it mean Ruth didn't teach you all these, she didn't teach you how to prepare your younger ones for school right? Oh I see.. go in there check if the left over will be enough for them if it won't be enough prepare jollof rice immediately and lastly be fast because my children don't go to school late.. she said and focused on her laptop

Nancy nodded,entered the kitchen and started preparing the rice, she didn't bother to check the left over because she didn't pay attention to what Jacinta was saying, she was busy admiring the laptop

6 o'clock everyone was awake,Nancy took turn to bath her cousins except Melissa and Immaculate the grownups
Jacinta entered the kitchen to dish out food for herself and husband when she sighted the yesterday leftover, she screamed Nancy's name calling her all sorts of names and insulting her mum (Ruth)

What is the meaning of this? I warned you to check the leftover before cooking that rice didn't I?

Auntie you did,It escaped my mind.. Nancy replied

You will eat this food because I don't waste food in this house,if this food spoil Nancy,if this food spoil I'll show you the other side of me..

Nancy opened the pot,it was still filled up with yam.."Why did I forget huh" she sat on the kitchen table holding her legs and murmuring to herself she was distracted by her aunt who was shouting her name from the dinning

Chapter 1

Nancy had travelled to live with her aunt,her mother's younger sister she had always wanted to live with her aunt Jacinta having the impression that her aunt would treat her better than her mum not knowing that she is beast
Jacinta had always wanted Nancy to come stay with her so she could take care of her children while she (Jacinta) goes to work and come back whenever she likes she promised herself to fustrate hell out of Nancy's life whenever she remembers what her sister (Nancy's mum) did to her during her teenage age

She dressed up and left to pick Nancy from the park, she waited so long but didn't see Nancy
She came out from her car and sighted a young girl standing with a "Ghana Must Go" bag staring at the tall buildings and admiring the noisy surroundings,A hand tapped her roughly from the back she turned immediately and rushed to hug her aunt, Jacinta removed her glasses and pushed with full force

You want to stain my gown right?

No auntie,I was carried away

Do you know how much this gown cost? Move.. Jacinta commanded looking at her with hatred written all over her eyes

Nancy obeyed, she walked faster not knowing where to head to, Jacinta screamed her name asking her to enter the car

Chapter 7

Dora was busy washing at the balcony when she went into labour

The felt the first sting , the pain was very sharp, she ignored it

Angela was busy with the chewing gum in her mouth, focused on her phone

Heii, Angela this is real.. she screamed

Angela's soul and body was glued on her phone, she raised her head up,stared at her and hissed audibly

Angela,I'm in labour, please help a sister..Dora cried

Dora screamed again, again and again, she carried herself downstairs, went outside the gate and waved down a cab which took her to the hospital

Nelson came back from work very tired and hungry,he called Dora severally but no answer

Angela where is Dora? He asked

Where is Dora? I carry Dora for my head? She responded pressing her phone

What the hell are you talking? Where is Dora I repeat? He asked furiously

She went into labour and left for the hospital.. she replied and left

Which hospital Angela?

Nelson entered his car and drove off

He drove to the nearby hospital and found Dora fanning and breathing helplessly, she has been in labour for long
She was crying and sweating at the same time

Please I need my mum,call my mum... she said the moment she saw Nelson

Nelson dialed her mum's number immediately, begged her to come to the hospital
After several pleadings from him she decided to come

Mum I'm dying,I don't think I'll be able to survive this... she cried holding her mum's fingers

Two nurses came out and took her to the labour room

Within thirty minutes the doctor came out,shaked Nelson Dora's mother, his face turned sour after the handshake
