1. Disease prevention: Our hands come into contact with various surfaces throughout the day, including objects and people. They can pick up harmful microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, and fungi. Regular hand washing with soap and water helps remove these pathogens, reducing the chances of infecting ourselves or others.

2. Breaks the chain of transmission: Many infectious diseases, including respiratory infections like the common cold, flu, and COVID-19, as well as gastrointestinal illnesses like diarrhea, are primarily transmitted through hand-to-hand or surface-to-hand contact. By washing our hands properly, we disrupt the chain of transmission, preventing the spread of diseases in our communities.

3. Maintains personal health: Hand washing not only protects others but also helps safeguard our own health. By washing our hands, we reduce the risk of falling ill and experiencing the associated physical discomfort, missed work or school days, medical expenses, and potential complications.
