The Oyo State Primary Health Care Board, through its Nutrition Department, convened a strategic stakeholders’ meeting in preparation for the upcoming Optimised Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (oMNCH) Week. The campaign is scheduled to run from November 24th to 28th, 2025, across the state.

The oMNCH Week aims to provide high-impact nutritional and health interventions to all children under five years, women of child-bearing age (13–49 years), and pregnant women within the designated five-day period.

The meeting was coordinated by the Director of Nutrition, Alhaja Alarape Khadijat, alongside the State Nutrition Officer, Mrs. Oladeji Omolara. It brought together principal officers of the Board, as well as major stakeholders and development partners, who reviewed preparedness levels, roles, and expectations for successful implementation of the campaign.

The session focused on strengthening collaboration, ensuring supply readiness, harmonising partner support, and mapping out operational strategies to guarantee effective service delivery during the oMNCH Week.

The Oyo State Primary Health Care Board, in partnership with the Oyo SWAp Programme, Eclectic Humanitarian Support and Development Initiative (EHSaDI), Centre for Population and Reproductive Health (CCPRH), and Egbeda Local Government Health Authority, successfully hosted a One-Day Capacity Building Workshop on Maternal Health and officially launched the Egbeda Maternity Digital App on Monday, 3rd November, 2025 at the Ministry of Health Conference Hall, Ibadan.

The workshop was organized by Mr. Happiness Opeyemi Agboola, National Health Fellow for Egbeda LGA (2025), as the second phase of his Capstone Project, in collaboration with Mrs. Abodunrin, Reproductive Health Officer, Oyo State Primary Health Care Board.

The event featured technical presentations by experts including Dr. Adeagbo (Oyo SWAp), Dr. Adewale Jamiu Lasisi (Adeoyo Maternity Hospital), Emeritus Prof. Oladosu A. Ojengbede (CCPRH), and Mrs. Iyanuoluwa Olaitan (EHSaDI), focusing on strengthening maternal health systems, capacity building, and promoting safe motherhood through digital innovation.

The Egbeda Maternity Digital App, launched during the workshop, is designed to support pregnant women and PHC staff by empowering them through digital care. Additionally, injectable contraceptives and bilingual maternal health awareness banners were distributed across Egbeda LGA to boost grassroots utilization of primary health services.

The event witnessed active participation from PHC representatives, partner organizations, and frontline health workers, under the leadership of Honourable Sikiru Sanda, Executive Chairman of Egbeda LGA, demonstrating a collective commitment to improving maternal health outcomes in the community.

The Honourable Commissioner for Health, Oyo State, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetumobi, alongside the Chairman, Oyo State Primary Health Care Board, Hon. The leadership of the Oyo State Primary Health Care Board, led by the Executive Secretary, Dr. Muideen Olatunji, alongside the Director of Disease Control and Immunization (DDCI), Dr. Osoko Johnson, the State Immunization Officer (SIO), Mr. Ademola Adediran, and the State Health Educator (SHE), Mr. Olarinde Olaoye, paid a courtesy visit to the Aseyin of Iseyinland, Oba Sefiu Olawale Oyebola Adeyeri III (Ajirotutu I). The team was accompanied by representatives of UNICEF.

The visit was part of the “Kick Zero Dose and Polio Out of Nigeria with a Kick Initiative”, a collaborative effort aimed at intensifying advocacy and community engagement toward improved immunization coverage across the state.

The initiative seeks to leverage the unifying power of football to promote vaccination awareness, mobilize community participation, and strengthen efforts to eradicate zero-dose cases and poliomyelitis in Nigeria.

The Oyo State Primary Health Care Board, in collaboration with MSI Nigeria Reproductive Choices, joined the global community to commemorate the 2025 International Adolescent Health Week with the theme “Thriving Inside and Out: Strengthening Adolescent Physical and Mental Health.”

The event featured an engaging sensitization and awareness session with students of Ibadan Grammar School, Molete, Ibadan, aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles, emotional well-being, and informed choices among adolescents.

In attendance were Mr. Ademola Adeniyi, OYSPHCB Adolescent Desk Officer; Mrs. Olatunde Folashade, Family Planning Coordinator; Adesina Faith, Social and Behavioural Change Communication Officer, MSI Nigeria; alongside other partner representatives who collectively championed the message of holistic adolescent health and empowerment.

The visit was part of the Foundation’s supervisory tour of the ongoing integrated campaign for Measles-Rubella, Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), Polio, Routine Immunization vaccines, and Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) interventions across Oyo State.

The atmosphere was vibrant and filled with optimism as the Oyo State Government through the State’s Primary Health Care Board, in collaboration with health partners, officially flagged off the integrated campaign for Measles-Rubella, Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), Polio, Routine Immunization vaccines, and Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) campaign. The event, held amidst a colorful display of unity and purpose, brought together key stakeholders and community members, all united by a shared vision; to protect every child and safeguard the health of future generations. Banners fluttered, traditional drummers set the rhythm of celebration, and the air brimmed with renewed commitment to public health and community well being.

In his inspiring address, the Executive Secretary, Dr. Olatunji Muideen Babatunde, emphasized the critical importance of immunization in building a healthier and more resilient Oyo State. He passionately appealed to caregivers and parents to present their wards for vaccination while creating awareness on the purpose of the Vaccines and their importance, then reminding them that prevention remains the strongest pillar of protection against life threatening diseases. Echoing his message, the Chairman of the Board, Hon. Dada Awoleye, who also represented the Oyo State First Lady, Her Excellency, Engr. (Mrs.) Tamunuominini Makinde reaffirmed the government’s unwavering dedication to ensuring that no child is left behind in this life saving campaign.

Other dignitaries, including the Permanent Secretary SMOH, Dr. Ayinde Akintunde, Chairman of the Oyo State Hospital Management Board, Dr. Akin Fagbemi, Chairman Ibadan North East Local Government, Hon. Akinsola Ibrahim and the Director of Disease Control and Immunization, Dr. Osoko Johnson, lent their voices to the call for collective responsibility. Other Board’s principal and programme officers, Representatives of The NPHCDA, WHO, UNICEF, FIC, market leaders, faith based organizations, caregivers, WDC and students also graced the event, symbolizing the community wide collaboration driving this noble cause.

The Oyo State Primary Health Care Board, in collaboration with the Oyo SWAp Programme, Eclectic Humanitarian Support and Development Initiative (EHSDI), Rural Nurture Initiative (RNI), and the Egbeda Local Government Health Authority, supported a 1-day Capacity Building Training on Integrating Mental Health into Primary Health Care held on 29th September 2025 at the Conference Hall, DPRS, Ministry of Health, Secretariat, Ibadan.

The training was organized by Mr. Happiness Agboola, National Health Fellow for Egbeda LGA (2025), as the first phase of his Capstone Project, in partnership with Mrs. Abodunrin Funmilayo, Mental Health Coordinator, Oyo State Primary Health Care Board. The session was facilitated by Dr. Olufusayo Elugbadebo (MBBS, MSc, FWACP), Clinical and Academic Psychiatrist, University of Ibadan, whose evidence-based and practical approach equipped participants with strategies for integrating mental health into primary care delivery.

To enhance community impact, each ward in Egbeda LGA received Mental Health Awareness Banners in both Yoruba and English, promoting grassroots sensitization and improving mental health literacy. Representatives from the Oyo State PHC Board, partner organizations, and frontline health workers actively participated, reflecting a shared commitment to strengthening mental health integration within the state’s primary health care system.
