Every month, menstruation occurs in a woman for 4-8 days for almost 40 years. From a layman's point of view, menstruation occurs when blood flow is expelled from the woman’s uterus through the va**na. The most common misconception about menstrual blood is that it is dirty. On the contrary, menstrual blood consists of blood, va**nal fluid, the cells, and fluid of the uterine endometrial lining.

Many women of childbearing age anxiously wait for the day their period arrives. “As a woman, this is one of my most difficult days because I have to remember to pack a sanitary pad in my bag. In preparation for D-Day, I would sometimes wear my pad. Unfortunately, if it does not arrive, the pad is rendered useless. Knowing how to calculate the menstrual cycle will help me get through this challenge because it is used to determine when menstruation begins” ….Anonymous

On the trail of the COVID-19 pandemic and the rise of monkeypox cases in Africa, the World Health Organization (WHO) has recently issued a public health emergency report from Ghana regarding a possible outbreak of the Marburg Virus Disease (MVD) in the country and its environs. The two earliest cases of its incidence came from the Ashanti region of the country on 7th July 2022 with confirmed results by the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research situated in the country. The results were further sent to Senegal, and with support from the WHO, the cases were identified to be Marburg Virus.

An outbreak of MVD represents a serious public health threat as it is severe and often fatal. As such, we should not overlook this outbreak lest it blows out of proportion, and with the current state of healthcare systems in Africa, particularly in Nigeria, the consequences will be devastating.

is one of the countries with the highest burden of malaria and deaths in the world.
is a day we recognise the global efforts to control malaria and celebrating the progress that has been made so far.
Since 2000, the world has made historic progress against malaria, saving millions of lives globally.
However, a great part of the world still lives at risk of this disease which is not only treatable but also preventable.
remains a threat to us, in general. A fight against malaria brings us closer to saving a child's life and also a pregnant woman who may otherwise die if not protected.
The goal towards achieving starts with everyone.
