Putting harmful substances like salt, sugar, breast milk, or even urine in your eyes when you have an eye problem is extremely dangerous. Many people believe these things can “clear” the eyes or cure infections, but the truth is they can cause serious damage.

Your eyes are very delicate — and applying such substances can burn the cornea, introduce harmful bacteria, and lead to infections that may result in permanent blindness. What might start as a minor irritation or redness could become something far worse just because of self-medication.
