This is the continuation of the story- Life in One Yard.

‎By the time I peeked into it, I saw a body lying on the floor, her clothes sprawled on the floor.

‎I moved swiftly toward the body, hoping against hope that she was still breathing.

‎"Oh Chinasa, is that you?" I lift her arm and let it fall, watching it land limb and heavy on the floor.

‎I checked her pulse and it felt steady.

‎Then I wondered what I could do to save my dear friend from dying because she was already weak. It seemed she had not eaten for days.

‎Not too long, I began to hear footsteps approaching the door.

‎"Where are you? Young lady...." Alhaji Musa called out.

‎As soon as I saw him walking toward the door, I hid behind the door.

‎He peeked into the room where Chinasa lay, walked in, and perused the room, his eyes narrowing as he scanned for any signs of forced entry.

‎Feeling threatened, I picked up the stick close to where I stood and held it firmly.

‎The moment he tried turning his neck, I struck to incapacitate him.

‎"Yo Allah, my head," He screamed, falling to the floor in a dizzy spell.

‎I reached out to his phone quickly, and I dialed my father's mobile number.

‎Edmond picked up the call.

‎"Hello, who am I speaking with?" He asked, his voice quivering with fear.

‎"It's me, Quincy...." I gave a quiet reply in a low tone.

‎Edmond screamed with excitement when he realized it was me.

‎"Quincy, where have you been? Dad and Mom are eager to see you..."

‎At that point, I was happy to hear that my parents are back together.

‎"Edmond, this is not the time to discuss because I'm in a mess..." I said, having my eyes fixed on Alhaji Musa.

‎"What is happening with you there? Talk to me na..." Edmond requested.

‎"I'm here with Chinasa and I need your help before she passes out..." I informed him.

‎"Ha, just send the address to me and I'll come pick you..." He said, confidently.

‎"Look, you can't do this alone, you need to inform the police..."

‎"Alright, just send the address, I'm going to inform brother Richard...." He demanded.

‎I ended the call and then sent the address to Alhaji Musa's house to Edmond.

‎A few minutes later, I heard a police siren, wailing down the street.

‎The police arrived at the compound less than I expected.

‎They surrounded it, Richard, and Edmond walked into the room that we were in, and they carried Chinasa into their van, while Alhaji Musa was apprehended.

‎"You must remain silent or whatever you say will be used against you in court of law..." The police officer in m***i handcuffed Alhaji Musa.

‎"Yo, I'm not the only one involved in this, you must go for the other persons...." He grumbled.

‎Chinasa was admitted to the hospital, and Alhaji Musa led the police officers to Mr. Jakwa's apartment.

‎In an attempt to run away, Mr. Jakwa was g_unned down and he was severely injured.

‎Next was Madam Obidi's house.

‎Do you think Madam Obidi will be arrested?

My husband has been bringing me breakfast in bed every day for three years until I noticed the slight bitter taste. I bought a testing kit. The results? Let's just say, he's not the person I thought he was.

Three years ago, I met Chukwuma at a conference hosted by an organization owned by my father.

I was impressed by his quiet dedication to his job; he was just a junior staff member whose humility attracted me immediately when he walked up to me.

"On behalf of the organizing committee, it's my pleasure to welcome you to the BRIN conference."

"Thanks, I appreciate your gesture," I said, smiling heartily as I shook his hand.

"Come sit here...." He muttered, pointing at the comfortable chair positioned around the central table.

The conference hall consisted of chairs set out in rows, all facing the same direction.

"Were you invited by a friend?" He asked, curiously.

I shook my head, "No, Mr. Ezewa invited me to the conference" I replied to him.

The look on his face showed surprise.

"You mean Mr. Ezewa invited you to the conference...Are you his daughter?"

"No, I'm his niece...."

"Wow! That's amazing...." He exclaimed.

"We will talk more sometime...." I said, waving my hand, while I took my seat.

"Okay, ma'am..." He disappeared into the conference computer lab.

I observed that he was responsible for the slideshow projector.

During the conference, we stole glances at each other across the room sharing a secret amusement.

He was intelligent and understood my deadpan humor and could dish it back with what seemed effortless.

But I found it hard to gauge whether he was interested in me.

At the end of the conference, I sauntered over to him and asked for his mobile number.

He hastily scribbled down his number and handed it over to me.

"Won't you ask for my number?" I asked, teasingly.

Pulling at the hem of his shirt, he stuttered, "I need to fix my phone...."

"You mean your phone is bad and you gave me your mobile number without telling me..." I questioned him.

"I'm sorry for that....I promised to fix it today" He said, without looking at me.

He rushed out of the conference hall, the moment he saw my uncle.

"What are you two doing together?" Mr. Ezewa probed, frowning.

"Uncle, we are catching up with each other..."

He fussed, "He's not your type....Stick to Kenneth, he's your type..."

"But, I don't love him..." He cut in, "I don't care if you don't love him, all I want is to preserve the family's legacy.... Remember, the advice your father gave before he kicked the bucket..."

"Uncle, I can't marry Kenneth period!!" I ran out of the conference hall sobbing because I couldn't handle the pressure of the argument.

Ezewa was my father's only brother and before he d!Ed he made him the managing director of Maxiren group.

He became the CEO after his elder brother was laid to rest against my mom's wish.

Chukwuma and I continued to be friends despite my uncle's efforts to stop our friendship.

He finally proposed three months later and my joy knew no bounds.
