🔥 If You Trace Your Origin to Idah, You Are Igala — No Matter the Language You Speak Today! 🔥
Let’s get this straight: language alone does not define a people — origin does.
If your ancestral root, migration story, or founding lineage leads back to Idah, then you are Igala by origin, irrespective of the language you speak today. 🌍
Before modern boundaries and linguistic diversifications, the Igala Kingdom was one of the most organized and influential civilizations in the Middle Belt and lower Niger region. From Idah, the influence of the Attah of Igala spread far and wide — into present-day Kogi, Anambra, Enugu, Benue, Delta, and even parts of Niger and Nasarawa states.
Many communities that now speak different dialects or even new languages today were originally Igala settlements that gradually adopted neighboring languages through intermarriage, migration, and cultural assimilation.
💡 Here’s why language alone should never be used to determine a people:
1. Languages evolve, but ancestry doesn’t change.
2. Cultural and political influence often spreads beyond linguistic boundaries.
3. Intermarriage and migration blend tongues, but not bloodlines.
4. History and oral tradition are stronger evidence of identity than modern speech.
5. Even in global history, nations like England, France, and Egypt have seen language shifts — yet their ethnic identity remains rooted in origin, not tongue.
So, if your forefathers migrated from Idah, if your village traces its founding to an Igala prince, warrior, or family, then your bloodline speaks Igala — even if your tongue doesn’t anymore. 🩸
Remember: Languages can be borrowed, but heritage cannot be erased.
✊🏽 Be proud of your Igala roots — they run deeper than words!
