đ¨The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has justified the imposition of a curfew prior to the February 21 area council elections in Abuja, asserting that the decision was within his purview and had received approval from President Bola Tinubu. During a media conference at his office, Wike maintained that as the FCT's chief executive, he possessed the authority to make security-related decisions, including restricting movement. He emphasized that the measure, which limited human and vehicular movement from 8 pm on Friday to 6 pm on Saturday, was implemented solely for security purposes. 'I possess the rights, as the governor of 3,000 polling units,' Wike said. 'For security, I must investigate what's happening. I don't require guidance, nor am I a candidate in the election.' The former Rivers State governor dismissed allegations that his presence at polling units influenced the election's outcome.
