Accelerating Action for Women’s Health: KSCHMA Marks International Women’s Day 2026 with Renewed Commitment to Inclusive Contributory Healthcare
8 March 2026
The Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KSCHMA) has joined the global community in commemorating International Women’s Day 2026, themed “Accelerate Action.” The Agency used the occasion to reaffirm its commitment to expanding access to quality healthcare services for women and girls across Kano State.
Speaking during the commemoration, the Executive Secretary of KSCHMA, Dr. Rahila Aliyu Muktar, emphasized that women’s health remains a key priority under the inclusive healthcare policy direction of the Executive Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf.
Dr. Muktar noted that this year’s theme highlights the urgent need for governments, institutions, and communities to intensify efforts toward improving the wellbeing and empowerment of women, particularly through access to quality healthcare services.
“The theme of this year’s International Women’s Day, Accelerate Action, strongly aligns with our mission at KSCHMA. It calls for deliberate and sustained efforts to improve the health and wellbeing of women. Through the Kano State Contributory Healthcare Scheme, we are expanding access to essential healthcare services for women, especially pregnant mothers and vulnerable groups,” she stated.
She explained that the Agency continues to intensify enrollment into the Kano State Contributory Healthcare Scheme, with particular focus on pregnant women, widows, orphans, and other vulnerable populations. Access to antenatal care, skilled birth attendance, and other maternal health services remains central to KSCHMA’s strategy to reduce maternal mortality and improve health outcomes across the state.
According to her, these initiatives align directly with the healthcare reform agenda of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, whose administration prioritizes inclusive healthcare coverage and strengthened health systems to ensure equitable access to healthcare services for all residents of Kano State.
Dr. Muktar further called on families and communities to support women—especially expectant mothers—to seek early antenatal care and take advantage of the opportunities provided under the state’s contributory healthcare programme.
“Healthy mothers build healthy families, and healthy families build a stronger Kano. We encourage communities to support women in accessing healthcare services early and consistently,” she added.
KSCHMA reaffirmed its commitment to working with healthcare providers, community leaders, development partners, and civil society organizations to strengthen women-centered healthcare delivery across Kano State.
