Eid-El-Fitr: KSCHMA Boss, Dr. Rahila Aliyu Muktar, Urges Residents to Celebrate Responsibly and Prioritize Health

19th March 2026

As Muslims across Nigeria mark the joyous occasion of Eid-El-Fitr, the Executive Secretary of the Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KSCHMA), Dr. Rahila Aliyu Muktar, has called on enrollees and the general public to prioritize their health and well-being during and after the festivities.

In her Eid message, Dr. Muktar extended warm greetings to all enrollees and their families, wishing them good health, happiness, and prosperity. She noted that while Eid signifies the successful completion of Ramadan, it is essential to sustain the healthy habits developed during the fasting period.

She advised that residents should eat in moderation, emphasizing that a sudden return to heavy meals after a month of fasting may pose health risks. She encouraged the consumption of balanced diets rich in fruits, vegetables, and proteins.

The Executive Secretary also highlighted the importance of adequate hydration, particularly for those spending time outdoors, while cautioning against excessive intake of sugary and caffeinated drinks.

On public health safety, she urged residents to maintain proper hygiene practices, including regular handwashing before meals and during food preparation. She further advised that all meat consumed during the Sallah celebrations should be properly cooked and stored to prevent foodborne illnesses.

To promote overall wellness, Dr. Muktar recommended light physical activity, such as walking after meals, to aid digestion and maintain fitness.

She also emphasized that individuals with existing medical conditions should adhere strictly to prescribed medications and seek prompt medical attention when necessary.

Reaffirming KSCHMA’s commitment to accessible and quality healthcare, she reminded enrollees that their contributions entitle them to healthcare services at designated facilities across the state, urging them to take full advantage of these services when needed.

“For assistance, code requests, referral challenges, or general inquiries, our support lines remain open to serve you throughout the festive period,” she added.

Dr. Muktar concluded by encouraging all residents to celebrate responsibly while embracing the values of care, compassion, and collective well-being.

Eid Mubarak!

The Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KSCHMA) has intensified its stakeholder engagement with organized labour through a sensitization workshop held with the Women’s Wing of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Kano.

The engagement, held at Green Desert Hotel, brought together labour leaders, women representatives, health professionals, and other stakeholders to deepen awareness and strengthen collaboration around the State’s contributory healthcare scheme.

The workshop focused on educating labour representatives—particularly women leaders—on the structure, benefits, and operational framework of the scheme, while encouraging wider enrollment among workers and their families.

Delivering the opening remarks, the Executive Secretary of KSCHMA, Dr. Rahila Aliyu Muktar, reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to expanding access to affordable and quality healthcare services for residents of Kano State through the contributory healthcare programme.

She noted that women play a critical role in household health decision-making and therefore remain vital partners in promoting awareness and participation in the scheme.

According to her, strengthening collaboration with organized labour—especially women leaders—will significantly enhance public understanding of the scheme and ensure that more households benefit from financial protection against the rising cost of healthcare.

In his welcome remarks, the Vice Chairman of the Kano State NLC, Comrade Auwalu Muhammad Yakasai, commended KSCHMA for engaging the labour movement and providing workers with the opportunity to better understand the healthcare scheme and its benefits.

He emphasized that organized labour remains committed to initiatives that promote the welfare and wellbeing of workers and their families.

Also speaking, the Chairperson of the NLC Kano Women’s Wing, Comrade Rabi Abdullahi, described the engagement as timely and impactful, noting that women leaders across labour unions will play a key role in mobilizing members to take advantage of the scheme.

She pledged the Women’s Wing’s continued support in promoting awareness and encouraging enrollment among workers across the state.

The workshop featured technical presentations on the operational framework of the scheme, the Organized Private Sector programme, enrollee benefit packages, and KSCHMA’s quality care and assurance mechanisms. Participants also engaged in an interactive question-and-answer session, providing feedback and seeking clarification on various aspects of the scheme.

Speaking during the commemoration, the Executive Secretary of KSCHMA, Dr. Rahila Aliyu Muktar, emphasized that women’s health remains a key priority under the inclusive healthcare policy direction of the Executive Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf.

Dr. Muktar noted that this year’s theme highlights the urgent need for governments, institutions, and communities to intensify efforts toward improving the wellbeing and empowerment of women, particularly through access to quality healthcare services.

“The theme of this year’s International Women’s Day, Accelerate Action, strongly aligns with our mission at KSCHMA. She explained that the Agency continues to intensify enrollment into the Kano State Contributory Healthcare Scheme, with particular focus on pregnant women, widows, orphans, and other vulnerable populations.
