As part of the MATASA Project, on International Condom Day, we conducted outreaches across various LGAs in Nasarawa State like at Akunza Primary Health Care, (Lafia), Agwan Lambu Phase 1 (Keffi) and Keffi and Wamba bypass (Akwanga) to provide awareness on role of condom in virus/disease prevention as well as providing free testing for Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, and HIV. These infections remain major public health concerns, and many people are unaware of their status.

The outreach aimed to educate community members, promote early testing, and improve access to screening services. Participants received health education, counseling, condoms and confidential testing to support early detection and prevention.

5 Important Healthcare Facts:

1. Transmission: Spread through infected blood and body fluids including unprotected s*x, sharing needles, and from mother to baby at birth.

2. Asymptomatic cases are common: Many infected people show no symptoms but can still transmit the virus and develop liver damage

3. Disease progression: Infection can be acute (6 months). Chronic Hep B increases the risk of cirrhosis, liver failure, and hepatocellular carcinoma.

4. Treatment: There is no definitive cure for chronic Hep B, but antiviral therapy suppresses viral replication and reduces liver complications.

5. Prevention: Vaccination provides effective, long-term protection and is the primary prevention strategy.

Screening, vaccination, and early medical care are essential for control.
