Pre-handwriting skills are the fundamental abilities and movements that children typically develop before learning to write. These skills lay the foundation for handwriting and include:

1. Fine motor skills: Using small muscle groups to manipulate objects, like picking up small toys or using tweezers.
2. Gross motor skills: Large muscle group movements, like arm waves, shoulder rolls, and hand clapping.
3. Hand-eye coordination: Tracking objects with the eyes and using hands to interact with them.
4. Hand-arm coordination: Moving hands and arms together to accomplish tasks.
5. Finger isolation: Moving individual fingers independently.
6. Finger strength: Using fingers to apply pressure or grasp objects.
7. Pencil grasp: Holding a pencil or crayon correctly.
8. Drawing and scribbling: Making marks on paper with a writing tool.
9. Tracing and following paths: Following lines, shapes, or paths with a finger or writing tool.
10. Understanding directionality: Recognizing up, down, left, right, and diagonal directions.

Some activities to help develop pre-handwriting skills include:

- Playing with playdough or clay
- Using tweezers or small tongs
- Coloring or painting
- Tracing shapes or paths with fingers or writing tools
- Playing with puzzles or matching games
- Building with blocks or Legos
- Dressing and un******ng (using zippers, buttons, etc.)

Keep in mind that every child develops at their own pace, and some may need more time or practice to master these skills. If you have concerns, consult with an occupational therapist or pediatrician.

Fine motor skills are the small, precise movements that are controlled by the small muscles of the hands, wrists, and fingers. These movements allow us to perform activities such as writing, using scissors, buttoning our clothes, and tying our shoelaces. Fine motor skills are important for everyday tasks and for school activities, such as writing and using a computer. Fine motor skills typically develop gradually during childhood and are an important part of a child's overall development. They can be strengthened and improved through practice, such as with games, activities, and exercises that focus on strengthening the small muscles of the hands.

HOW TO TEACH A CHILD TO READ FASTER

Teaching a Slow Learner to read requires a lot of patience, creativity, and a variety of engaging activities. Here are some strategies you can use:

1. Introduce phonics: Teach the child the letter sounds of the alphabet. You can use Jolly Phonics or Letter Land. I prefer letterland because of the stories that come with it and associating the letter sounds with objects.

2. Use multisensory techniques: Incorporate different senses into the learning process. For example, have the child trace the letters with their finger in the air while saying the sound, or use tactile materials like sand, or sandpaper to form the letters.

3. Teach the child the technique of blending to read. That is, putting the letter sounds together to make a word. For example; c - a - t 👉cat

4. Focus on word families: Choose a word family, such as -at, -an, or -it, and introduce a few words from that family. For example, cat, hat, mat, bat, can, for, pit, etc. Use these words to create simple sentences or short stories.

5. Play word games: Engage the child in fun word games that involve 3-letter words. For example, play "I Spy" where you describe an object using its beginning sound, or play a rhyming game where the child has to find words that rhyme with a given word.

6. Read together: Read simple books or stories with the child, emphasizing 3-letter words. Point to each word as you read it, and encourage the child to do the same. This helps develop word recognition and tracking skills.

7. Use technology: Utilize educational apps or online resources that offer interactive games and activities focused on teaching 3-letter words. These can make learning more engaging and enjoyable for the child.

8. Provide positive reinforcement: Praise the child's efforts and progress, and celebrate their achievements. Use stickers, small rewards, or a chart to track their progress and motivate them to continue learning.

Remember, every child is not the same. Children learn at their own pace, so be patient and provide plenty of opportunities for practice and repetition. Make the learning process enjoyable and tailored to the child's interests and abilities.
