*Security Tips* ...

*THINGS WE MUST AVOID THIS MOMENT.*

Fellow Nigerians,

Pending the time our government and security forces will take the much needed decisive actions and win the war against our sworn enemies, please avoid the following so you won't be a prey in the hands of kidnappers and bandits alike:

1. *Property Inspection:* This is not the time to go and be inspecting or checking properties alone in an isolated thick forest. Someone did that recently and landed in the hands of kidnappers who are presently demanding 20m for his release.

2. *Display of wealth:* For now, keep your expensive properties away. Stop the unnecessary display of wealth in public places.

3. *Fruits sellers at community entrance:* Since criminals also relies on informations same as security agents, it is important that community leaders avoid the sudden surge in non native fruits sellers who are strategically positioning themselves at our respective community entrance(s). It is a known fact that "He who mans the gate knows who comes in and goes out". He or she will know your caliber and movement time, including when you are asleep or awake.

4. *No late night movements:* We must avoid needless night movements at this critical period. If you must relax, please do it in the comfort of your home or find somewhere nearby with familiar and trusted faces.

5. *Sensitive and financial information on mobile devices:* Keep away all financial transactions and other sensitive informations, including passcodes, home address, office address, children's school names etc.

6. *Strangers:* Now is not the time to accommodate strangers within our community. Any new face(s) must be well profiled with support of security personnel within our jurisdiction.

7. *Selling and leasing of properties to strangers:* As a matter of fact, we must stop forthwith, the idea of selling or leasing of all kinds of properties to strangers all in the name of money. It is safer to sell, lease or rent out your property to a known and reliable person at reasonable costs than do the same for a stranger at a higher rate.

8. *Avoid domestic staffs if you can:* If it is compulsory that you hire a domestic staff, do it with all due diligence. Many homes have been infiltrated and still being targeted through their domestic staffs.

9. *Home security consciousness:* Now is not the time to be lackadaisical in our home security arrangements. Ensure doors, gates and other access points are locked before going to bed while same also applies to communities.

10. *Not a time to sleep:* We can't be sleeping when the enemy is awake. Going early to bed will help us to stay awake early enough. Now is the time to keep our eyes wild opened.

11. *Do not conceal intelligence from security agents but share same with wisdom:* This is not the time to see something and keep quiet. However, we must ensure that such information is only and properly divulged to reliable security personnel or community leaders to avoid leakage.

I am passionate about Nigeria and I desire security and safety for every good Nigerian citizen with respect for our respective cultural values.

Baseline Security.........

*Good Evening my brothers and sisters in the House, members are advised to be mindful of our security. even as we pray Listen to news regularly. The country is going through very difficult and unsafe times. We all need to be concerned about our safety. Do not say it can never happen to me. No one is safe. Relatives of the President had been kidnapped. Men of God, Security men like us both serving and retired etc. No one is safe nowhere is safe. Let us try and observe strict security protocols together with our prayers*.

*ONE*
We are advise never to stay out of the house late,
Come back home or stay close to your house latest 1800hrs i.e 6pm.

*TWO*
Do not travel in marked vehicles. For example, vehicles bearing names, company etc.

*THREE*
Do not travel in groups. If you are to go for a program, move alone.

*FOUR*
If your area is being attacked, switch of all lights including any switch with lights no matter how tiny. Remove all jewelry on your body and wrap your phone in a cloth to prevent light reflection that can betray your position.
If you hear gunshot, leave your bed and lie flat under the bed and out of your window. Get out of sight. Lie close to any wall.

*FIVE*
Do not take ride in any vehicle that you don't know. Take public transportation at all times.

*SIX*
When you go out, dress normal and neat not flashy. Never wear any clothes that can get you noticed or identified.

*SEVEN*
If you are going out to somewhere, tell someone where you are going to and the expected time of your arrival. If possible don't go alone.

*EIGHT*
On no account should you visit online friends. People who you meet on social media, you should never visit them either in public or in their home or office. NEVER.

*NINE*
Speak very little when you are in the public and never comment on government or political issues.

*TEN*
Always maintain call credit on your phone and always ensure you have power on it or buy power bank. You may need to make contact incase of an *ATTACK*.

*ELEVEN*
If under attack, do not make voice calls, because sound travel faster and quietly at night, just ring the number repeatedly if the person pick, don't speak. Just send text. When doing that do it under cover so that your phone will not reflect any ray of light.

*TWELVE*
Don't buy group dress from anyone for now. No matter how close they are to you , don't buy.

*THIRTEEN*
Don't attend parties that you are not closely concerned.

*FOURTEEN*
If at all, you come under attack, remember there are only 2 rules to guide you.
*1) DO NOT PANIC*
*2) NOT TO FORGET RULE 1*
If you panic, you will attract attention of the attackers to yourselves, and you will not remember exactly what you need to do to keep you safe.

*FIFTEEN*
This is not the time to do fashion or to showcase your new clothing and shoes. Anytime you go out wear dress and especially shoes that will allow you to run incase you need to get out of troubled area fast. Wear cheap shoes that you can throw away if it impedes your movement. Your dress should not hinder your ability to run.

*SIXTEEN*
Prepare for any eventuality. Do not say it can't happen. Be Prepared. Trouble can happen anywhere any time. Remember your life is very important, not your phone or your property.

*SEVENTEEN*
If you have to run, throw away anything in your hand. Save yourself first. Don't wait to pick anything that drop from your hands. Run as fast as you can.

*EIGHTEEN*
If there is shooting, try the rules. Do not panic. The fact that you heard the gunshot means that you are not hit. If you are hit, you will not hear the SOUND.
#. Reduce your height first by bending down as close to the ground as possible.
#. Then try and identify the direction of the shots first then draw a cross putting the direction of the shot at north or south, run East or WEST.
#. Never run straight line in opposite direction because bullets travel at straight line and never run toward the point of the gunshot.
#. As you are moving out of the troubled area, identify hard objects or structures that you can use as protection where you can hide.
#. If you notice the sound is coming closer, shift your location a little as you continue to run. If not, find a safe place and hide in sitting position to avoid stray bullets from hitting you.

*NINETEEN*
At this moment, avoid arguments with People. When you notice people are showing anger, don't wait to settle them, move out of the place as quickly and quietly as you can. Sometimes ago in Ado Ekiti someone was trying to settle an argument, he was stabbed and he died on the spot. Don't go to places of incidents to go and look what's happening.

*TWENTY*
At this moment, stay as close as possible to your home. Know the shortest possible routes to your home incase you need to get home quickly.
Always keep some change at hand. Not much, maybe 2k or less incase you need to board a public transport out of any trouble area.
*OPEN YOUR EYES AND BE ALERT.*
_Suspect everything including people and places._...

**Please🙏🏾Adhere Strictly to the above write-ups, we'll not fall victim of this unfortunate insecurity ravaging the country.🙏🙏🙏*

Baseline Security..........

*CRIME RESEARCH STATISTICS:*

This is a research conducted in *OTA AREA COMMAND* on all the nine Police Divisions based on in-depth interviews with convicted robbers which could be useful to any resident:

• 8 out of 10 residential robberies are committed with the help of information from maids, gardeners and former employees.

• Robbers will monitor the home for as long as two weeks.

• Most attacks occur between 19:00 and midnight as people are relaxed, sleeping, cooking or watching TV and the security systems and beams are not activated.

Robberies can continue until 04:00.

• 97% of robbers are armed.

• On average, an armed robbery gang has four members.

• The average age of a house robber is 19 to 26 years of age.

• An average of 30% of all house robbers have either committed murder, or won’t hesitate to commit murder.

• Only 17% of house robbers are combinations of *strangers and indigenes*.

• Of all arrested robbers, 90% had no matric qualification or were unemployed.

The 10% who had been employed gave up their jobs when confirming how much they could *earn* from a robbery.

• Most victims or targets are affluent persons who openly display their wealth, for example wearing expensive jewellery.

• The average robber commits 103 robberies over 7 years before getting caught.

• Most attackers *homes* or *bases* are a 10 to 30 minute drive from the target address.

• The conviction rate for house robberies in *Ota Area Command* is only 7.67%.

In *OGUN STATE COMMAND* it is 53%.

• Robbers are deterred by alarms and armed reaction services.

These security measures are a major deterrent to crime:

• *Electric fences*

• *Detection beams*

• *Closed Circuit Television (CCTV)*

• *Small dogs that sleep inside the house (robbers consider this to be the biggest deterrent of all.)*

• In the words of Dr Rudolph Zinn from his book Home Invasion - *“They scout a neighbourhood to see how tight the security is. A patrol or neighbourhood watch factors in 68% on whether they go in or not. So, having a good neighbourhood watch in the area can be a major deterrent.”*

Before you leave your house…
• Make sure all shrubs and trees are trimmed back so that they do not allow a burglar to conceal himself while attempting to open a window or door.

If possible, plant bushes with prickly thorns around these locations.

• Don’t stop your security awareness at the outside walls of your house. Your yard areas (if any) also deserve attention.

In general, don’t leave anything around the yard that might help a burglar get into your house. Ladders, stackable boxes or any garden tools should be put away, preferably in a locked cabinet.

Many burglars have used the property owner’s own tools to break into a home.

• Don’t place outdoor furniture tables nearby the house, as these could become an easy stepladder to the roof. Rather move them inside in the evening.

• Second-story windows are often left unsecured, making it easy for the criminal to get into the house.

To discourage potential climbers, spread grease on any metal drainpipes if they are close to windows. Use Vaseline or clear automotive grease, depending on the colour of the pipe (or replace with plastic pipe).

• A barking dog, changing your daily routine and the presence of CCTV cameras could make your home a less attractive target to criminals.

• Make sure your post office box is always empty. A full post box makes it seem like you are never home.

• Since robbers can watch your movements for as long as two weeks, try to deviate from your usual routine regularly.

Leave and return home at different times, use different routes and visit different shops to what you typically do.

• Taking extreme care when hiring domestic workers and other service providers cannot be underestimated. Be careful who you let into your home.

We are in high level crime zone ( December and January) Please be on high alert.

Activate all your security systems. Emergency numbers should be handy.

Happy Christmas & New Year In Advance.

*Be safe*

Security tips:
Six ways to avoid ‘one chance’ vehicles

‘One chance’ is a popular pidgin phrase that means one has entered a situation that he/she is unable to immediately escape from.
This crime occurs when one boards a bus which then leads him/her to being kidnapped.

The most vulnerable passengers to this heinous act are those who board buses along routes, especially at points where there are no designated bus stops or where the buses are not required to park before picking up passengers

By being aware of your safety while on buses and even private cabs, you can greatly reduce the risk of attack or assault.

Here are six safety tips to avoid one chance in Nigerian cities:

1. Be aware and stay alert

Always stay alert no matter how tired you are. Your driver could be just as dangerous as a common criminal.

So you need to be very active even as a passenger.

If you feel uneasy or threatened, change your seat or alert the driver. If needed, get off at the next busy bus-stop.

2. Always inform family members or close friends of your movement

Let someone close to you know your routine or travel schedule.

Two crimes one could easily fall prey to while travelling is kidnapping and robbery, so it’s important to inform your friends and family of your itinerary before embarking on any journey.

3. Board only registered, licensed commercial vehicles

Some vehicles carry people without license plates, some use foreign license plates, and some hide their license plates because of lax enforcement of the law.

Commercial cars are assigned specific colors in numerous states. Experts say that these are warning signs to be aware of.

4. Whatsapp live location:

If you want people to know where you are, turn on live locations in chats where it’s enabled.

The WhatsApp location feature can be used to share one’s location in a WhatsApp message.

On an iPhone: Go to WhatsApp > Account > Privacy > Live Location to see a list of the chats where you’re sharing this information, and remove anywhere you’d like to restrict live location access.

On an Android phone: Go to WhatsApp > Menu > Account > Privacy > Live Location. From there, you can allow WhatsApp to access your device location while using the app or deny access.

5. Use designated motor parks

Many of the criminals who do one-chance operate outside designated bus parks.

Some operate near the bus stops, to give an impression that they are genuine, but it’s said not to be enough.

6. Avoid vehicles with tinted glasses

Vehicles with tinted glasses are not that rampant but when you identify one, it is not a bad idea if you decided not to pay attention to such vehicles.

It is however advisable to avoid public vehicles with tinted glasses, and other cars used for public transport.

Please share to save people's lives.

Copied.

Baseline Security..........

NIGERIA IS FACING SERIOUS SECURITY CHALLENGES, SO IF YOU MUST DO AN INTER - STATE TRAVEL, PLS NOTE THE FOLLOWING:

1. Schedule it between 9am to 3pm. Don't leave too early and don't be caught in the late hours.

2. Remove titles from your phone contacts. Example: Hon, Alhaji, Chief, Inspector, and military ranks in general and do not display your ID card.

3. While driving, focus on the road and ensure that every 5-7 minutes, there is traffic on the returning lane.

4. Try not to exceed 100km per hour so you can make your judgements timely. It will also help you look out for traps and appreciate the terrain.

5. If you can, please don't use tinted sheets on your car. It passes a message to bandits and criminal elements that you are a VIP or uniformed man/woman.

6. Make sure you always have a spare tyre, plug and fuel pump in your car. Don't ignore this.

7. Even if you are not the one driving, put your phone away and keep your eyes on the road to help driver identify approaching threat.

8. Moving in a convoy has proven not to intimidate criminal elements. Bandits took on an 8-car convoy along Kaduna-Abuja sometimes back.

9. If you must stop to buy food article or ease yourself, it is advisable to take that break at a town or village.

10. Dress down decently while travelling. Avoid clothes, shoes, watches, and other jewelry that make you look more affluent than others. Criminals are very perceptive, and they know how to quickly single you out.

11. Keep to the main roads and avoid lonely dark areas.

12. Let someone know your movements.

13. Always remain LOW PROFILE.

These are safety tips. They will help tremendously, though cannot guarantee total protection from these elements.

PLS DON'T IGNORE THIS MESSAGE AND FOR NIGERIANS TO STAY SAFE.
