Continuing our daily fact sharing, in commemoration of , let's talk about Cerebral Palsy and Reading.

Children with cerebral palsy may experience specific difficulties when learning to read.

There may be difficulty holding and turning the pages of a book, difficulty tracking words in a book due to lack of neck control or slow eye movements and difficulty reading aloud due to a speech impairment.

With the advent of page turners, audio books and eye gaze technology, there are many ways to ensure that the impairments caused by Cerebr Palsy do not inhibit any child from learning to read.
Every simple smartphone has the 'text to speech' function, and using headphones, a child with Cerebral Palsy can be introduced to the beautiful world of books, developing a robust vocabulary at the same time.
The question left to answer is, Will you let us learn to read?

It is a condition that is permanent, but 'non progressive.'. This means that Cerebral Palsy has permanent effects on on the movement and posture because the damage present in the brain cannot "heal". Cerebral palsy is 'non progressive' means that the damage to the brain does not get worse; However the effects on the body can get worse with age, especially where therapies and a good diet are neglected or inconsistent.

Cerebral Palsy becomes much more manageable when treatments such as therapies are employed.
Therefore, early intervention is important for providing your child with the best opportunities for development regardless of the severity of the condition!

Continuing our daily fact sharing about Cerebral Palsy, Here's today's fact.

A communicable disease is one that is spread from one person to another through a variety of ways that include:
1.Physical contact with an infected person, such as through touch.
2.Contact with a contaminated surface or object, food, blood or water.
3.Bites from insects or animals capable of transmitting the disease.
4.Through air.

Cerebral palsy cannot be transmitted or spread through physical contact, contaminated food or objects or air, therefore it is not a communicable disease.

Cerebral palsy is a disorder of movement, muscle tone or posture which is caused by abnormal brain development, often before birth.

So, relax, a typical child cannot 'catch' Cerebral Palsy from being in the same class, sharing the same seat, or providing support to their peer with Cerebral Palsy.

Cerebral palsy is not genetic; it is a disorder that can sometimes result from a brain injury experienced at birth, but in many instances, physicians are unsure of its cause.

However,it is not a disease transmissible through DNA.

Causes during pregnancy and after pregnancy could be:

1.Low Birth Weight: Infants under five pounds are at an increased risk of developing CP, with infants under three pounds being the highest risk group. Since most infants who are born prematurely typically weigh five pounds of less, premature babies are also at risk.

2. Jaundice: There is a common misconception that jaundice is a minor medical that won’t pose any long-term medical problems. However, if left untreated, jaundice can cause a host of serious problems, including a heightened risk of developing CP.

3. Birth Problems: Uterine rupture, placental problems, and umbilical cord problems can all lead to an increased risk of the infant developing CP

Cerebral palsy (CP) refers to a group of disorders that affect muscle movement and coordination.
In many cases, vision, hearing, and sensation are also affected.

The word “cerebral” means having to do with the brain. The word “palsy” means weakness or problems with body movement.

CP is the most common cause of motor disabilities in childhood.
The symptoms of CP vary from person-to-person and range from mild to severe. Some people with CP may have difficulty walking and sitting. Other people with CP can have trouble grasping objects.

Most children are born with CP, but they may not show signs of a disorder until months later. Early diagnosis and treatment are very important!
