FOCUS ON FATS

Fat plays an important role in our body as it is both a source of energy and a way to store energy. It’s also a part of every cell in our body. We all know that fat comes from our diet but what you might not know is that the types of fats we eat are important, especially when it comes to cholesterol levels.

Fat & Cholesterol:

Fats and cholesterol cannot dissolve in blood, similar to oil and water, which is why the body uses special proteins to transport them. Two of the most important transport proteins are Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL) and High Density Lipoprotein (HDL). LDL carries cholesterol around the body looking for a place to store it. But, when there is too much LDL-cholesterol in the blood, the cholesterol can get deposited on the walls of arteries which can cause them to narrow. This is why LDL is sometimes called bad cholesterol. The other type, HDL, searches for cholesterol in the bloodstream and transports it back to the liver to be broken down, which is why HDL is also referred to as good cholesterol.

Elevated cholesterol is a risk factor for heart health; therefore it’s important to keep your cholesterol levels as low as possible. One way you can influence this is by making small changes in your diet to maintain cholesterol levels because the type of fat you eat impacts the amount of HDL, LDL and total cholesterol in the blood. As heart health has multiple risk factors, you may need to improve more than one to reduce your overall risk.

At the recent GES in Kenya, Barack Obama declared that Entrepreneurship allows people to shape their destinies. In a world where technology is fast changing the way we live and work, it's easy to get carried away and not consciously make decisions that will positively impact your future.

Technology has enabled employers to do much more with much less staff strength, so expect more layoffs. This may mean stunted career growth and misery pay which won't get better. Recently I heard of a UK graduate offered a 50k job. Interesting times.....parents should really start asking us for ROI on our education.

The reality is that there are more graduates than employment opportunities. A lot of people are working so hard for so long for too little. Sad!!!!

Am I here today to bash employees that don't have a plan? YES

If you don't have a plan, you will have to settle for someone else plan. And guess what they have planned for you, NOT MUCH. Having a plan does not mean you don't like your job or career, having a plan does not mean not doing your job excellently, it does not mean disloyalty neither does it mean quitting your job.

Having a plan means positively engaging yourself to provide the future you desire and not leaving it in the hands of an employer that may not even know you exist. Am not saying it's easy, am saying you should do it regardless. It's your future.

The title of my note today is inspired by the words of God to us written in the bible. Let's read together, " Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth."

Through this passage, we can see clearly that it is God's will for us to live Healthy, Wealthy and Happy. But how many people live this three lifestyle in all? I bet less than 10% Nigerians.

I challenge us today to dare to live the lifestyles of our dreams because only through that can we live Healthy, Wealthy and Happy.
