NAFDAC is alerting the public to the recall of some batches of multivitamins and iron supplements in the USA.
These brands of vitamins, known as CINCINNATI (WKRC), sold nationwide at retailers such as Walmart, Amazon, and Target, are being recalled due to the risk of serious injury or death from poisoning, especially for children.

According to a recall report from the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, around 60,000 units of iHerb/California Gold Nutrition Iron Supplements Multivitamins that were recalled are: Daily Prenatal Multi, Ultamins Women’s Multivitamin, and Ultamins Women’s 50+ Multivitamin.

The authorities discovered that the packages lack child-resistant packaging, which poses a risk of fatal poisoning if young children swallow the contents.

Healthcare professionals and consumers are advised to report any suspicion of the sale of substandard and falsified medicines or medical devices to the nearest NAFDAC office, call 0800-162-3322, or send an email to sf.alert@nafdac.gov.ng

The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Mr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, paid a courtesy visit to the Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, at the Headquarters in Abuja, to inaugurate the implementation committee for the NAFDAC–NCS Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed in November 2024. The visit also explored new avenues for collaboration to strengthen the safety and regulatory oversight of imported goods.

Mr. Adeniyi described the move as a significant step towards transforming the MoU’s objectives into tangible outcomes. The committee, co-chaired by senior directors from both agencies, has been tasked with developing a joint strategy, enhancing information sharing, harmonising procedures, and coordinating enforcement and training initiatives.

Prof. Adeyeye hailed the CG's visit as historic, the first ever by a sitting Comptroller-General of Customs to NAFDAC, and highlighted the alignment of the MoU with NAFDAC’s National Action Plan, which prioritises strategic partnerships. She also commended the CG’s leadership, notably the recent interception and handover of controlled substances deceptively shipped into Nigeria from India disguised as floor tiles, and congratulated him on his appointment as Chairman of the World Customs Organisation.

NAFDAC Raids Mushin, Seizes Banned Codeine Syrups and Other Illicit Drugs

NAFDAC has raided over 20 shops and storage facilities along Agege Motor Road, Mushin, Lagos State. The operation was carried out by the Investigation and Enforcement Directorate earlier this week.

The team confiscated a large consignment of banned codeine-based syrups and other controlled substances.
Thirteen shops were sealed for dealing in unregistered, expired, banned, and controlled products, including Dynamogen Oral Solution, Diazepam, Molly, Co-codamol, and Bromazepam.

These dangerous substances pose severe risks to vital organs such as the brain, liver, and kidneys, as the safety and efficacy of unregistered and banned medicines cannot be guaranteed.
NAFDAC urges the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest NAFDAC office.

NAFDAC alerts the public of the illegal circulation and marketing of a substandard and falsified Knowit Insulin Syringe 40 IU 29g X 1/2 in Nigeria.

The Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN) raised concern regarding the ongoing use of 40 IU/ML insulin syringes despite the availability of 100 IU/ML insulin syringes.

The 40iu/ml Insulin syringe was previously approved alongside the 100iu/ml for administering Lente animal insulins because of its presentation in both strengths.

However, with the discontinuation of animal insulins and the advent of human insulins whose strengths are streamlined to 100 iu/ml, the 40iu/ml insulin syringe is no longer applicable and not registered anymore by NAFDAC as it could cause dosing errors with serious adverse consequences on diabetic patients using them.
