Let’s talk about Hormones🤗.
Specifically, we’ll discuss HORMONAL IMBALANCE on today’s episode of HEALTH-TIPS MONDAY WITH I~CHERISH.

Every time the subject of hormonal imbalance is broached among young women, literature with the practiced tolerance reserved for overzealous house guests who talk about fanatical crusades or something.
And you can't really blame them, because when they think about hormonal imbalance what comes to mind is hot flashes, menopause, a very dry va**na, and mood swings.

But who says you have to be old (or just older) to have hormonal imbalance? It could present in the persistent acne that won't go away no matter how much love you show your skin. It could be seen in that extra weight you carry in your middle no matter how much exercise you get. It could also show in the fact that even when you're not working, and you're not troubled, you're awake watching Young, African and Famous when you should be sleeping.

Your hormones are the tiny soldiers your body creates to make sure everything is in sync and working well. Once those tiny soldiers are not produced, the perfectly organised lego tower of your health could topple, putting your body on overdrive.

How to make sure you don't get to that point?
I'll tell you;

1. Go see a doctor the minute you start feeling out of it. It's not common practice in Nigeria, but doctors are not last resorts when ignoring the symptoms don't work.

2. Sleep. Please get some sleep. The adequate amount would be 8 hours, and if that is a challenge for you, take naps too. Your body will thank you.

3. Eat clean. Incorporate fruits and vegetables in every meal, make meal times interesting and engaging. Your mouth is not a garbage bin where you throw things in mindlessly.

4. Exercise. It could be a walk to work instead of taking a cab, or it could be taking the stairs instead of the elevator. If you're feeling adventurous like me, or you need to workout in a controlled environment, get a gym membership! It's cheaper than what you spend on data, I promise.

With that said, I hope you make a conscious effort from now to make your hormones work for you.

On Today’s episode of HEALTH-TIPS MONDAY WITH I~CHERISH , we will discuss an interesting and captivating topic>>

ZIKA VIRUS: Zika virus is a mosquito-borne flavivirus that was first identified in Uganda in 1947 in monkeys. It was later identified in humans in 1952 in Uganda and the United Republic of Tanzania.

Outbreaks of Zika virus disease have been recorded in Africa, the Americas, Asia and the Pacific.

*The incubation period* The time from exposure to symptoms of Zika virus disease is estimated to be 3–14 days.
*Symptoms*
The majority of people infected with Zika virus do not develop symptoms. Symptoms are generally mild including:
-Fever
-Rash
-Conjunctivitis
-Muscle and joint pain -Malaise and headache, and usually last for 2–7 days.

*Complications of Zika virus disease*
1)Zika virus infection during pregnancy is a cause of microcephaly and other congenital abnormalities, fetal loss, stillbirth, and preterm birth.
2)Guillain-Barré syndrome, neuropathy and myelitis, particularly in adults and older children.

*Transmission*
Zika virus is primarily transmitted by the bite of an infected mosquito from the Aedes genus, mainly Aedes aegypti, in tropical and subtropical regions. Aedes mosquitoes usually bite during the day, peaking during early morning and late afternoon/evening. This is the same mosquito that transmits dengue, chikungunya and yellow fever.
*From mother to fetus during pregnancy. *Through sexual contact *Transfusion of blood and blood products *Organ transplantation.

*Diagnosis*
A diagnosis of Zika virus infection can only be confirmed by laboratory tests of blood or other body fluids, such as urine or semen.

*Treatment*
There is no treatment available for Zika virus infection or its associated diseases.

Symptoms of Zika virus infection are usually mild. People with symptoms such as fever, rash, or arthralgia should get plenty of rest, drink fluids, and treat pain and fever with common medicines. If symptoms worsen, they should seek medical care and advice.

*Prevention*
+Protection against mosquito bites during the day and early evening is a key measure to prevent Zika virus infection. Special attention should be given to prevention of mosquito bites among pregnant women, women of reproductive age, and young children.

+Aedes mosquitoes breed in small collections of water around homes, schools, and work sites. It is important to eliminate these mosquito breeding sites, including: covering water storage containers, removing standing water in flower pots, and cleaning up trash.

*N.B* No vaccine is yet available for the prevention or treatment of Zika virus infection.
