Title: "When Me Becomes We: The Pressure We Ignore

It’s that time of the year again, music in the air, food on every table, joy in every corner. But while we’re celebrating, something else is quietly happening in the background: our bodies are whispering for help, and many of us aren’t listening.

Let’s talk about blood pressure, not the hospital kind that makes you panic, but the one that’s always there, quietly responding to the choices we make every day.

You see, there’s a kind of pressure that doesn’t show up with loud signs. No fever, no swelling, no wound. Just a little more tired than usual… a small headache… maybe a racing heart after a short walk. Most times, we wave it off, saying, It’s nothing, I’ve just been stressed. " But sometimes, that “nothing” is high blood pressure, and it’s slowly doing damage.

This festive season, as we eat, laugh, and celebrate, our hearts are doing the work behind the scenes. The extra salt in that delicious meat, the overload of fizzy drinks, the drinks we say we’re taking “just to relax”... it all adds up. And before we know it, what was meant to bring joy begins to take a toll.

On the flip side, some of us are constantly dizzy, weak, or feeling like we might pass out at any moment. It’s not laziness or overthinking. It could be low blood pressure, another quiet struggle that can turn dangerous if ignored.

Whether too high or too low, pressure is pressure. And in this season of joy, it’s important to be mindful, not just of what we eat, but also of what we allow into our minds and hearts . Emotional stress is just as powerful as physical pressure.

So this December, let’s care deeply, not only for the people we love, but for ourselves too. Let’s check our blood pressure. Let’s rest. Let’s drink water. Let’s laugh fully, eat wisely, and live with balance.

Because health doesn’t take a holiday, and neither should our self-care.

Merry Christmas 🥰

😂 Sugar wey no get control – Na Diabetes be that!.

You see this body? E dey like generator , it runs on fuel, and that fuel na sugar (glucose).

But sugar no just enter body cells by itself o. It needs a key. That key na 'Insulin'.

Now imagine say the key don lost or stubborn, sugar go just dey waka up and down inside your blood like jobless person. That wahala? Na diabetes!.

🩺 So Wetin Be Diabetes?

Diabetes na when your blood get too much sugar* because insulin don fail duty:

- Either e no show up at all (Type 1)

- Or e dey there but dey do like say e no get sense (Type 2)

Sometimes, belle people (pregnant women) go even get visitor wey be gestational diabetes, e go waka after birth, but sometimes e go stubborn stay.

😩 Why E Dey Worry Us?

Because sugar wey no stay for where e suppose dey go start to damage body parts:

Eyes, kidneys, feet, and even heart. Na why dem dey call am "sweet killer."

Present, but Powerless: A Glimpse into Clinical Posting as a Nursing Student

During my clinical posting, I found myself standing beside a patient in deep pain. I knew what was wrong. I even knew what could ease their discomfort. But I stood there, silent.

Not because I didn’t care.
Not because I didn’t want to help.
But because as a student, I wasn’t allowed to act without supervision.

That moment broke me.

It’s hard when you're learning in an environment where lives are at stake. You want to do more, you want to act quickly but the fear of making a mistake holds your hand back. Sometimes, it's not even fear. It's just the rule of the system.

And so, I did what I could: I held the patient’s hand. I spoke gently. I waited for the nurse to come.

This is one of many realities nursing students face. We're trained to care, yet often restricted by inexperience, hierarchy, or fear. We’re learning to grow, under pressure, in real time, where every decision counts.

🩺 To my fellow student nurses: You’re doing better than you think.

🩺 To our senior colleagues and mentors: Your patience, guidance, and words of encouragement mean the world.

📌 Have you ever felt this helplessness during your training? How did you overcome it?.

"First day in the Eye Ward and boom! I witnessed a cataract surgery 👁️🔪💥 Just one day here and my eyes don see things 😅👩‍⚕️ Truly, nursing no be beans oo. This posting is not just interesting it's eye-opening... literally!"

"Cataract surgery is a procedure where the cloudy lens of the eye is removed and replaced with a clear one. It restores vision and brings back smiles. Today, I watched lives get brighter, one eye at a time."

🩺 "In the silence of the strike, the cries of the sick grow louder."

Second week into my ENT posting at UNTH.

We arrived that morning expecting the usual bustle in the wards. But something felt off. The halls were too quiet, the beds too empty. The air was heavy. Then came the whisper:
The nurses are on strike.

We were told to return to our lodges. Just as we turned to leave, a frail voice stopped me.
“Who will care for us if the nurses aren't here?” she asked, her eyes wide with fear.

I stood there, frozen. I had no answer. I could only ask her to sit and wait, though I knew no one might come.

As I walked away, my heart broke. What about the patients who can’t feed themselves? The ones who lie helpless, unable to speak or move?

This strike isn’t just a disruption, it’s a cry. A cry from nurses who are overworked, underpaid, and constantly overlooked by a system that treats them as invisible.

But they are not invisible to the patients who depend on them.
To the woman who held my hand today.
To the man in the ward who can’t lift his own spoon.

Nurses are the backbone of our hospitals, and the silence of their absence is deafening.

As a student nurse, today didn’t just teach me medicine. It taught me heartbreak, injustice, and the urgent need for change.

Dear Nigerian Government, you cannot keep neglecting those who hold up the lives of our people. Nurses deserve better. And so do the masses they serve.

End of Psychiatric Posting – A Journey to Remember

From stepping into the unfamiliar halls of the psychiatric hospital to gaining insight into the human mind, this journey has been nothing short of transformative. As a Student Nurse , I got the chance to walk in the shoes of patients, listen to stories that moved me, and learn from professionals who opened my eyes to the world of mental health care.

We attended in-depth classes, engaged in meaningful discussions, and witnessed firsthand the courage it takes to heal. One of the most challenging yet rewarding parts? Writing detailed case studies on our assigned patients and standing before a panel to defend our understanding and approach. And of course, we wrapped it all up with our final exams, a true test of everything we’ve learned.

This posting didn't just teach me about psychiatric nursing; it reshaped the way I see people and the strength behind their struggles. I’m walking away not only with knowledge but with compassion, confidence, and an even deeper love for this profession.

Here’s to growth, learning, and the journey ahead.

Happy Nurses Week 2025!🥳

Today marks the beginning of Nurses Week, and as a proud nurse, my heart swells with emotion and gratitude. This year’s theme, “Nurses Make the Difference”, couldn’t be more fitting. Because every day, in ways big and small, nurses around the world step into moments of pain, fear, and uncertainty, and bring comfort, strength, and healing.

We are more than just caregivers.

We are listeners when words fail.

We are hands to hold during the hardest nights.

We are strong when others feel weak.

We are hopeful when everything feels lost.

To my fellow nurses, thank you. Thank you for showing up even when you're tired, for choosing compassion over convenience, for putting others first when it isn’t easy. Your impact goes far beyond any chart or shift report. You make a difference, not just in healthcare, but in the lives you touch every single day.

This week, let’s not only celebrate ourselves but every nurse who has ever cared, comforted, or carried someone through the storm. Here's to our courage, our calling, and our unshakable hearts.

Happy Nurses Week 2025!

20/04/2025

"This Easter, as we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, let us also reflect on the hope and healing He brings not just to our souls, but to our hearts and minds. Jesus conquered death so that we could live in the fullness of His peace.

The same Jesus who calmed the storm with a word can also calm the storms within us. He sees you, He cares deeply for you, and He invites you to lay your burdens at His feet.

The empty tomb is a powerful reminder that darkness doesn’t get the final word. Whatever you may be facing, anxiety, depression, burnout, or just the silent struggles no one sees, know this: in Christ, there is always hope, always light, and always the promise of a new beginning.

You are not alone. You are loved beyond measure. And just as Jesus rose, you too can rise, one day, one prayer, one step at a time." Don't forget to seek help when you need one.

Happy Easter !.
