How do we see?

Imagine your eyes is like a room that has a window with a curtain and this room has an errand boy inside it with a garden at the backyard and a gardener.

Let's call this curtain the pupil which is the tiny hole in front of your eye through which light enters.

Let's call the window the cornea and the lens. These window has to be clean and transparent for you to see well and for light to pass through.

Let's call the room the retina where the image is formed.

Let's call the errand boy the optic nerve, who sends message to the brain.

And let's call the gardener the brain, where the image is interpreted.

Now here is what happens.

The open curtain allows light to enter this room through the window,the light becomes an image,then the errand boy runs to the gardener at the backyard and tells him to interprete the image.

So for you to see, light enters through your pupil and passes through the cornea and lens to the retina where it becomes an image. Then the optic nerve sends it to the brain where it is interpreted.
