Gonorrhea, and he is dancing 😱

Imagine some African culture where a man throws a party when he experiences urethral discharge; it is believed that discharge from his manh00d is a symbol of maturity 🙁 kinsmen are invited to perform some rites and initiate him into an age group, it's such a celebration. Just imagine how ignorance makes one play with his life😡

⭐Gonorrhoea is one of the sexually transmitted infections which if not treated properly can have devastating consequences. It is caused by the bacteria Neisera gonorrhoea

The bacteria affects the reproductive organs of both men and women; hence the infection can:
✍️Block the fallopian tubes (leading to inability to conceive or get pregnant)
✍️ Cause ectopic pregnancy in which implantation of the developing baby occurs outside the womb

⭐In men, the infection can

✍️ Affect the epididymis, which is like a coiled tube where s***m matures and are stored. From here, s***m can be transported to the vas defence for release during ejacu1ati0n. This tube can become infected and blocked leading to inability to release sp£rm.
✍️The urethra (the pipe urine flows when a man wants to p*e) may be blocked years after the infection (though common with Chlamydia), leading to urethra stricture.

⭐In new born
It can cause eye discharge when the baby acquires it from the mother during va**nal birth

⭐In rare situations, it can affect other organs and structures in the body causing serious diseases.

How would you suspect gonorrhoea?

✍️Pain or burning sensations when urinating
✍️Discharge from the urethra or va**na. This discharge may be like pus, yellowish or greenish in color
✍️Pain during intêrk0s
✍️Testicular pain in men
✍️Lower abdominal pain.
✍️anal Itching and discharge
✍️Fever

⭐⭐ Some people may not show obvious symptoms (like some ladies), but it's there and causing the problem

⚠️ Don't dance when you have discharge from your manh00d, or 'womanh00d', go to the hospital to get proper evaluation. Some tests would be conducted and the person would be placed on some antibiotics. Half Treatment can be dangerous. Make sure you complete your treatment.

Why is beans recommended for diabetics despite its high carbohydrate content?

As discussed previously, beans contain a higher amount of carbohydrate than protein. Despite these high carbs, it's a stable food for most diabetics, have you wondered why?

The carbohydrates in beans are complex sugars. Most components of this carbohydrate like fibers are difficult to digest. Stachyose and raffinose, other forms of sugars in beans are also difficult to digest.

This inability to breakdown most carbohydrate in the beans limits the amount of glucose in the blood. So, even though beans contain a high amount of carbohydrates, the percentage of sugar released into the blood stream is relatively small because of inability of the body to breakdown all the carbohydrates into simple sugar.

The Glycemic index helps us understand this fact in a simple way. After eating a carbohydrate food, there may be a rapid rise in blood sugar level say in 2hrs. These have a high glycemic index like Garri, soft drink etc)
On the other hand, after eating some carbohydrate containing food, the amount of blood sugar is mildly elevated. These have low glycemic index (beans have a low glycemic index); it doesn't raise the blood sugar level too high after consumption

Beans, a carbohydrate giving food.

✍️Growing up, a lot of us were made to believe that beans is solely a proteinous food. Little did we know that such knowledge was false.

✍️Beans no doubt contain proteins, but the amount of carbohydrate in beans is far greater than the amount of protein. Beans also contain certain amount of fats, minerals and vitamins. It is packed with food components.

✍️But in relation to carbohydrates and proteins, beans contain about 65-70% of carbohydrate while only 20-25% of proteins.
This shows that beans are rich in carbohydrates.

If beans are high in carbohydrates why then is it recommended for those living with diabetes?

The danger of cough syrup in children.

It was around 11 pm and a loud cry was heard at the gate: "open the gate, my baby is d£ad, open the gate" did you know what happened? The child has been in deep sleep from morning till night with no food and can't even open the eyes. The previous day, the child was coughing and the mother got a cough syrup from the patent (chemist) store. That baby of less than 3 months was given multiple doses of cough syrup (likely overdose) and the child went into sedation.

✍️ The use of cough syrup in children can be risky. The drug brings about its action by suppressing the cough reflex; however, the medication extends its action to other regions of the brain causing drowsiness and suppression of breathing in children. Imagine the level of drowsiness an adult feels when he takes cough syrup and compare that with the nascent brain of a child.

DO THEY NEED COUGH SYRUP?

✍️cough in children may not need any treatment because they are mostly caused by viruses (adenovirus , respiratory syncytial virus, rhinovirus etc). The good news is that these viruses commonly resolve spontaneously without any treatment. The viruses leave the body within a week and the child is fine without any treatment.

✍️even when cough syrup is given, it does not treat the cause; rather, only makes one not to cough. But the cause persists. cough syrup therefore treat only the symptom and not the disease while waiting for the virus to clear on its own.

✍️A few causes of cough that are related to bacteria no doubt are treated with antibiotics because bacteria infections are aggressive. Classically, they may present with cough, high fever, fast breathing, noisy breathing etc. These may need antibiotics and the baby will benefit from pediatrician review

⭐⭐Cough syrup in children can be very risky. remember it doesn't treat the cause of the cough. It can cause drowsiness/sedation and suppression of breathing in children especially following a high dose. It's not simple to find an actual dose that doesn't pose a risk to a child. This is why many companies will add an inscription in the leaflets "not to be given to children less than 6 months" because the safety in children is not well established.

⭐ If your child is coughing, continue breastfeeding or rehydration depending on the age, vitamin C can help and see your doctor

Between pregnancy test (PT) and ultrasound scan, which one is more important?

Pregnancy Test (PT) and ultrasound scan are used in diagnosing pregnancy. But here is the catch: ultrasound scan is more superior to PT as far as pregnancy is concerned.

✍️PT detects a hormone which is present in pregnancy. Since this hormone can also be present in a woman who has other health problems (in non pregnant cases), it can also be positive when a woman is not pregnant.

✍️If the pregnancy is abnormal and baby isn't formed properly (partial mole) or baby is completely absent as can occur in blighted o**m, complete molar pregnancy etc, the PT will still be positive.

✍️If the place the baby is growing is abnormal, and hence the pregnancy can not thrive (ectopic pregnancy), PT will still be positive

⭐ Ultrasound scan confirms if a woman is truly pregnant by visualising the sac, the heartbeat, and based on the age of pregnancy, different parts of the baby. By so doing helps us know pregnancy that is abnormal or one without a baby.

⭐ Ultrasound scan also shows the location of the pregnancy if it's in the womb or outside the womb

⭐Using some parameters from the scan, one can measure the expected date of delivery and other parameters that defines the baby's wellbeing.

Because PT strip is handy, if a lady misses her period, she can do a PT; but to confirm that pregnancy, she should do an ultrasound scan

How multiple se£ual activities can lead to cervical cancer

⭐Cervical cancer is described by some health professionals as a se£ually transmitted disease just like syphilis, gonorrhoea, HIV, Hepatitis B etc. this is because of its association with a sexually transmitted agent called human papilloma virus.

⭐Some strains of human papilloma virus (HPV 16, 18...) have the ability to transfer some of their genetic materials into the human cells in the cervix. The transferred gene creates signals that make the cells start to grow uncontrollably. This uncontrolled growth and proliferation gives rise to cancer.

⭐Human papilloma virus, the agent that causes cervical cancer can be transmitted from one person to another during unprotected se£ual relationships. HPV is one of the se£ually transmitted infections. The chances that one can acquire any sexually transmitted infections is increased with multiple sexual partners. As side chicks, sugar mummy and sugar daddy become a part of our se£ual stories, let's remember that cervical cancer knocks at the door just as HIV, syphilis etc

Herbal drugs can cause kidney failure

⭐Imagine only one herbal mixture offering a cure for 5 different diseases😱🤔; instead of it being celebrated as a natural cure for diseases, we should rather be worried about the chemicals it contains. The action of this mixture is based on the chemical contents. Therefore for a herbal concoction to provide a cure for so many different diseases, this implies that the mixture contains different chemicals.

⭐The kidneys are responsible for the excretion of drugs and chemicals from the body. All the chemicals we ingest (from drugs, herbal mixtures, food additives, alcohol etc) are removed by the kidneys. Each time the kidneys remove these toxins/chemicals, there are certain degrees of damage that occurs in the functional unit of the kidneys called the nephrons. This damage becomes more progressive when so many chemicals are introduced to the body because the kidneys perform more work to get rid of the chemicals.

⭐For instance, when the kidneys remove one chemical, the damage is small compared to the damage caused by excreting 5 or more chemicals. Herbal mixtures are found to contain so many chemicals which can put the kidneys at a greater risk of damage than just one purified chemical

⭐In an attempt to reduce the amount of chemicals in the body, drugs that contain just one chemical are extracted, purified and made into a tablet. This reduces the amount of chemical exposure in the body and helps in reducing drug related kidney injury.

⭐In a nutshell, herbal drugs have a tendency to cause more kidney related injury because of the myriads of chemicals it contains. This is called toxic nephropathy. Against the popular belief that since herbal drugs are natural, they have no side effects; this is very wrong. Herbal drugs contain chemicals and are therefore implicated in kidney related injury (kidney failure). Herbal drugs can cause kidney failure

Just a single herbal mixture is marketed as a cure for a whole range of medical problems. It's a cure for irregular me**es, typhoid, malaria, hepatitis, fibroid, infection etc. doesn't it bother us? And so worrisome is the fact that these herbal medications have a Nafdac Registration Number😱

THE SECRETS REVEALED

⭐Most of these herbal medications with Nafdac Registration number were registered as supplements and not for the respective cures, which they are being marketed for. As a marketing strategy to increase sales and make profit, they add all sorts of diseases, which they believe can be cured by the herbs.

⭐Some go a long way to add other herbs to reprogram the medications (already registered as a supplement by Nafdac) and give them unverified medical efficacies.

⭐Mixture of different herbs produce different chemicals in the body. So, when you drink a cup of herbal mixture, your body is exposed to lots of chemicals. That herbs are natural doesn't mean they can't be toxic to the body. Remember, all their effects are brought about by the chemicals in them, and as a chemical can be useful, it can also be a poison.

One outstanding problem with herbal drugs is the identification of the chemicals in them. How many chemicals are contained in them? Do I need all these chemicals? How can the therapeutic dosage be measured/quantified?

So when you are told of a herbal drug that cures so many diseases, just remember that it contains so many chemicals, even the ones you don't need. And when many chemicals enter the body, the liver does a lot of work to eliminate them and the kidneys work to excret them; these pose a certain degree of risk to these organs. Herbal drugs are not as innocent as you all think; they can be toxic

The mystery of two lovers "glued together" while having s£_ks

⭐It raises a lot of questions watching dramas unfold on social media when a man and a woman get stuck together during an intimate relationship. On the one hand, it is culturally seen as a punishment for infidelity when the woman abandons the husband for another man or vice versa. The partners are seen wrapped up in a cloth or wrapper to the amusement of everyone. In such a society, the man and the woman are to be brought for cleansing. The question is: what is really happening? Is this real? How come they are stuck?

⭐ Although what we watch on social media is more of a strategy to boost engagement since contents like that attracts people's attention, the reality is that it can happen but not to the extent projected in the social media.

THE BIOLOGY EXPLAINED.

✍️During female 0rga$m, the muscles of the va3na contract and grip the rigid male Pên1s. At the end of 0rga$, the muscles relax and the grip is relieved.

✍️In a rare condition, the va3na muscles fail to relax and continue to grip the peñ1s. This creates some discomfort when the man attempts to pull out. The good news is that, in this situation, the man's se£ual drive may drop and his Pên1s become flaccid and gradually reduces in size. Consequently, he pulls out from the woman without any public drama as the p***s become smaller.

✍️This case is rarely seen in hospital settings; only documented cases of past decades reported it. This is because most cases last just a few seconds and resolve spontaneously.

What you should do if you find it difficult to pull out

✍️Both of you should abandon the act and relax.
✍️Don't panic and don't try to forcefully disconnect as that can cause more pains.
✍️wait for a few seconds or minutes; the muscles will relax and a disconnect will be possible
⭐ but If it persists, which is unlikely, then seek medical attention.

When a woman should not push after caesarean section (c/s)

At midnight it was noised at the gate; help, help, open the gate. She was in a taxi and needed a stretcher to take her to the ward. A woman in labour who has had caesarean sections was seen bleeding while she was trying to push her baby. She ruptured her womb in the process 😭 and lost the baby and now fighting for her life😭😭

Although a woman can push after one c/s as we discussed on the previous post; however, there are conditions in which she's expected not to push because of life-threatening complications that can develop if she attempts.

🚨 A pregnant woman should not push if she has had 2 or more c/s: the chances that the womb will tear during the process of delivery is very high and the woman may bleed to death. Uterine rupture is such a serious obstetrics complication that is life threatening; pushing a baby with 2 or more histories of cs is a risk not worth taking 😭😭 it is an invitation of death. This shouldn't be done ⚠️

🚨 For those with just one c/s who would like to push the next pregnancy, you don't have to get pregnant within a short time after c/s because the scars won't be strong enough to withstand uterine contractions when you want to push. Imagine after a c/s, 6 months later, the woman gets pregnant again. The place where the womb was cut wouldn't be strong enough; it needs more time to gain strengths and this can cause a tear along the line of the previous surgery/scar when she attempts to push. If the next pregnancy is delayed for 2 years or more, it's better (18-24 months)

🚨If the first surgery was performed because of a structural/recurrent problem in a woman's pelvis, then she shouldnt try a va**nal birth after c/s. Take for example, she has a contracted pelvis, it will be difficult for her to deliver va**nally because her pelvis is too narrow for a baby to pass through. This condition is part of her entire life and she will have to undergo a c/s during delivery.

🚨When the placenta is covering the internal os completely (the passage), there is no need to push; "the road is blocked" and any attempts at delivery may be mete with serious bleeding. complete placenta previa is an absolute indication for a C-section

🚨Baby lying transversely is an indication for a c section irrespective of previous surgery or not.

⚠️⚠️ When a woman who has had c/s becomes pregnant, such pregnancy is a high risk pregnancy and therefore needs supervision by a qualified medical practitioner and, even if she wants to attempt va**nal delivery, it should be done in a center that can support caesarean section. Untrained traditional birth attendants unprofessionally administer oxytocin to these women. The use of oxytocin (hot injection 🔥 ) can increase the risk of uterine rupture/tear especially in women has had previous c/s

✍️The penchant for a va**nal delivery particularly after CS if not properly guided can endanger the life of the woman and baby. Remember: the goal of every pregnancy is to achieve a healthy mother and a healthy baby and if a repeat CS is recommended, please go for it.

What makes va**nal birth possible after caesarean section?

Once a c/s, always a c/s is no longer a true mantra. If a woman who has had a caesarean section wants to try va**nal birth in the subsequent pregnancy, there are certain factors that would aid her achieve a successful va**nal birth after a cs

✍️The point where she had that surgery is a weak spot in the uterus and needs time to heal properly. Getting pregnant too soon after cs would increase the risk of uterine rupture; with stress, it might tear along the line of the previous scar.
In order to prevent this scenario, after a c/s, endeavour to prolong the time of your next conception; get pregnant after 18-24 months. Some literature put it above 15months, however, the longer it takes for you to get pregnant after cs, the better the outcome. This is called interpregnancy interval

✍️If she has had a baby va**nally before a cs, there is an increased chance of a successful va**nal birth after cs

✍️If the weight of the baby is within normal range (2.5-3.5kg), the chances of a successful va**nal birth after cs is high.

Can I give birth normally after C/S (caesarean section)?🤔

"I am worried because the doctor said I will do c/s since the baby is lying transversely. And I know after this surgery, all my babies would be delivered through c/s"
This information is not absolutely correct.

OUR RESPONSE

✍️Having just one caesarean section from transverse lie doesn't mean that all subsequent pregnancies will be operated upon. That's not true. She can have a normal va**nal delivery if there are no other issues that necessitate c/s. For example, the baby may put the head down (cephalic presentation) in the next pregnancy and can be delivered va**nally.

✍️ Remember, she was advised to go for a caesarean section because in that pregnancy, c/s was a safer route for delivery than va**nal birth. How can she push a baby when the hand of the baby is in the va**na (hand prolapse)? How can she push that baby when the baby's stomach is covering the passage (of delivery)? Every pregnancy is different and the orientation of the next baby may favour va**na birth. It is not compulsory that all her babies would lie transversely at term.

✍️If a woman has one history of caesarean section from a cause that isn't constant, she can attempt va**nal delivery. There are lots of successful stories of va**nal birth after a Caesarean section...

⚠️ However, there are some caveats to this.
