A Very Sad Day to Be an Eye Doctor

Yesterday, a young boy was brought into the clinic, barely able to see guided in by his single mother. A sweet, innocent child, suffering… all because of a well-meaning but dangerous decision.

Two days prior, he had mild redness and some eye discharge.
Instead of seeking proper care, his mum mixed sugar and water, added salt, and dropped it into both eyes.
Now? He has severe corneal ulcers in both eyes. His only hope is a corneal transplant costing ₦8.5 million per eye and that’s if a donor cornea can even be found or imported to Nigeria.

Dear Nigerians, please hear this:
NO to sugar water.
NO to salt.
NO to breast milk, baby urine, early morning urine, battery acid, or perfume in the eyes.
It is dangerous. It can blind.

See an optometrist or an ophthalmologist for any eye challenges.
