Ever heard of “Auto-brewery Syndrome”?
🍺 Imagine getting drunk without actually taking alcohol..
That’s exactly what happens in a rare condition called Auto-Brewery Syndrome (ABS) also known as gut fermentation syndrome.
In Auto-Brewery Syndrome, certain types of yeast or bacteria (like Candida albicans or Saccharomyces cerevisiae) overgrow in the intestines.
When you eat carbohydrates or sugary foods, these microbes ferment the sugars into ethanol (alcohol) right inside your gut!
As a result, the alcohol gets absorbed into your bloodstream, leading to symptoms of intoxication even without drinking.
If you feel drunk or foggy after eating bread, rice, or sugary foods it’s not in your head. It might be in your gut.
It’s rare but real. Stay aware.
