🔎When Standing Alone Hurts the Cause 🧑🏾⚕️⚖️
Recently, a video surfaced showing a Nigerian nurse being berated for not joining a nationwide strike. While some celebrities praised her loyalty to duty with one even offering ₦500k as a reward, this situation opens up deeper issues we can’t ignore as healthcare professionals.
🧠 Let’s be clear: Nurses in Nigeria are severely underpaid, overworked, and frequently disregarded. Strikes are not just walkouts, they are desperate cries for better conditions, fair pay, and respect. When one of us refuses to join, it weakens our collective voice. It gives room for authorities to continue ignoring our struggles.
💔 While compassion and dedication to patients are commendable, undermining a unified action only delays the change we all desperately need. This isn’t about "bad behavior", it’s about understanding the power of unity and the cost of individualism in a broken system.
🙅🏾♀️ Rewarding such actions sends a confusing message: "Sacrifice your wellbeing and ignore your rights, and maybe someone will applaud you." That’s not sustainable, and it’s not the kind of recognition we should aspire to.
👩🏾⚕️ Nurses deserve more than handouts. We deserve systemic change, fair pay, safe working environments, and respect from the government and the public alike.
Let’s stay united. Our silence or division is the very weapon used against us.
