EXCESS INTAKE OF SUPPLEMENTS WITH ITS CONSEQUENCES

Taking excessive supplements can have serious negative consequences for your health. One of the primary concerns is toxicity and overdose, particularly with fat-soluble vitamins like vitamins A, D, E, and K.

When taken in excess, these vitamins can accumulate in the body and cause issues such as liver damage, nausea, nerve problems, and even death in severe cases.

Excessive supplement intake can also lead to nutrient imbalance, where an overabundance of one nutrient can interfere with the absorption or function of others. For example, too much zinc can impede copper absorption, while excessive calcium can affect iron uptake.

Furthermore, overloading the body with unnecessary supplements can put a strain on the kidneys and liver, which are responsible for filtering and metabolizing substances.

Additionally, some supplements can interact dangerously with prescription medications, such as vitamin K with blood thinners, antidepressants or birth control pills.

Relying too heavily on supplements can also create a false sense of security, leading people to neglect a balanced diet rich in whole foods, fiber, antioxidants, and essential nutrients.

No supplement can fully replace the benefits of a healthy diet, making it essential to approach supplementation with caution and consult with a healthcare professional.

NOTICE OF APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION INTO THE ND/HND NURSING SCIENCES PROGRAMME
The Akwa Ibom State College of Nursing Sciences is pleased to announce the commencement of the application process for admission into the ND/HND Nursing Sciences Programme for the 2025/2026 academic session. All interested candidates are hereby informed that only those who meet the following requirements will be eligible to proceed with the application process:

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
JAMB UTME Score:
A minimum score of 180 in the 2025 JAMB UTME.
O’Level Requirements:
Credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics from WAEC, NECO, or NABTEB, obtained in not more than two sittings. NABTEB results cannot be combined with other examination results.
In addition, candidates must possess the following: FSLC, Certificate of Origin, Birth Certificate, and Change of Name (if applicable).
Other Conditions:
Candidates must have chosen Nursing Sciences as their course of study in the 2025 JAMB UTME.
Candidates must select one of the College’s campuses (Anua, Eket, Ikot Ekpene, Ituk Mbang, or Oron) as their first or second choice in the 2025 JAMB UTME.
All candidates are required to apply only once; duplicate applications will lead to disqualification.
All candidates must be 16 years of age or older by September 30, 2025.
Candidates must register with their own valid personal telephone (GSM) number and email address.
Only candidates who successfully complete the application stage and meet the initial requirements will be contacted via email.
All candidates are advised to regularly check their email inbox and spam folder for updates from the College.
Candidates must print the acknowledgement/screening test slip upon completion of the registration process to ensure eligibility for the screening exercise.
Screening and communication
Please Note: Registration is online; therefore, candidates are not required to be physically present on any campus but are advised to register from a location of their choice.

Candidates must bring their printed acknowledgement/screening test slip to the screening exercise venue as evidence of successful payment and registration.

Parents, guardians, and uninvited security agents will not be allowed on the screening exercise premises on the day of the screening.
