I came across a Post yesterday where someone was addressing the issue of knowing your Hb-genotype before engaging in any relationship. He made mention of the season we are in the valentine period when people will be going out on a date with their lovers, and possibly ending up sleeping together which may result in pregnancy. When the Hb-genotype is not compatible the possibility of giving birth to a baby with Sickle Cell Anaemia arises. But what caught my attention is a reply in the comment section where someone asked? If we are placing Hb-genotype above love in choosing a partner and in dating or any form of relationship. Now the reality of the issue is that the authentic love is a command, and not a choice. And love thrives in an atomsphere of peace, and joy. There are many implications of giving birth to a child with Sickle Cell Anaemia, it starts from, social, phycological, emotional, and economic. A couple with a baby who has sickle cell anaemia will be ready for constant hospital visits, including admissions often, and on. The economy of the family is spent in the hospital, and on medications, sickle cell anaemia is one of the conditions that we do not have a readily available cure in our part of the world 🌎, even the very cure itself runs in millions, when you talk about Gene transplant, and there are issues of compatibility with the donor, but the maintenance or management of the child with Sickle Cell Anaemia runs in tens or hundreds of thousands. Which by the time the couple starts spending the money the love they talking about will be forgotten, and nagging, name calling, and divorce becomes inevitable. The child is emotionally and phycological down self esteem is destroyed and will always be away from school, where he/she gets to adulthood man-hour is constantly lost as a result of I'll health, and may lead to loss of job. Sickle Cell Anaemia is one medical condition with a lot of complications which may include organ damage like heart, kidney, liver, lungs, loss of sight, and even infertility. The pain sickle cell patients go through is better experienced than explained. When crisis sets in you see your child wreathing out in pain you are watching but cannot help. What kind of heart broken will you experience. Please you cannot sacrifice the future of the unborn child on the altar of love. Our parents did theirs in error, and you cannot in this dispensation of knowledge and commit this crime against humanity. If you do providence will not forgive, neither will life forgive but you will live with the pains. The chart below is a guide to choosing a partner. You can also order the book Unveiling Sickle Cell Anaemia to know and see more of the pains, and complications of Sickle Cell Anaemia.
