If shame worked, addiction wouldn’t still exist.
Being told to “just stop” doesn’t create change.
It creates silence. Hiding. More control, not less.
Addiction isn’t a lack of character.
It’s loss of control over something that slowly took the wheel.
Shame doesn’t unlock the cage.
It reinforces it.
Real recovery doesn’t start with hating yourself.
It starts with understanding what’s happening inside you and learning how to take control back.
This isn’t who you are.
It’s what’s been running you.
And you can reclaim it.
